I don't do everything, just try to learn it so that I can teach it, when needed. Prior to today's clinic, I made sure they had a chair for me to sit on, while the instructor would be talking or demonstrating each technique. If I stand still for more than a few seconds, my knees will lock up and, usually, I can't walk. I no longer throw people over a hip or over my back. But I substitute with throws over a leg or by other techniques. Also, because of potential eye problems, I don't take hard falls or hard blows to the head. Previously, I almost lost one eye because of a detached retina. A hard blow or bounce on the mats could cause the other retina to go! My classmates and instructor are very helpful. When I first started I went all out and was happy to learn that my body could still take the blows and bounces, so now I do feel handicapped. But I continue very carefully. One only needs a few techniques to be effective. Aikijutsu(defensive combat) is not a sport, so it is not competitive and honors no rules. I could likely disable most assailants within seconds with one of my favorite techniques. (I still have a lot more to learn.)
