What's a Johnny law?

I drove @4months on a suspended license without realizing it. Found out when I went to renew my registration. I had a speeding ticket in Maryland that I ignored. seems just recently the jurisdictions started "talking" to each other.

yup, it used to be that if you got a ticket in a state that didn't border yours you could get away with not paying it but not in this technological world of ours...but this ticket was in my own state and in an uppity suburb too...$140 for only 12 over the limit...i guess they have to get the money to pave their streets with gold somewhere

I got a ticket in Colorado one year coming down outta Wolf Creek Pass toward Pagosa Springs. The nice lawman escorted my wife and I into the little town where he watched me make a check and mail it to the JP's office. What a nice guy he was too, gave us the nickle tour and everything.............he was onto us Texans and our evil ways, lol.

Holy sheeite! Well, I do border MD but I still don't think they talked to DC until recently.

Mine was $35-55 for going 9 over.

thriftyhiker - You're correct. Speeding tickets are a big business. A few years ago I reported getting caught in a speed trap in Kentucky on I-65. It turned out that it was a known speed trap that had been there for close to two years and was posted as such on the Internet. It is gone now, but has probably been moved elsewhere. I estimated that on one shift per day that the trap was grossing $40-50,000,000 per year, mostly from out of state drivers. I think that qualifies it as a big business. There were 10-12 police cars, each issuing tickets as fast as they could write.
This is one heck of a subject for a Get Up thread!

Back in the summer of '69 I was speeding through Wisconsin in my '69 Dodge Charger, barely going 105 in a 70. I was pulled over by a cop and also had to pay on the spot. I had no check book, but since it was payday I had a pocket full of cash. The trooper escorted me to a post office where I could buy a money order. He also watched while I dropped it in the mail. That weekend, while visiting my brother, was pretty much without beer. Took most of my paycheck. Thank God I lived through those years.

i've seen many speed traps in kentucky, especially on 65...their terrain makes it pretty easy to get you...you fly over a hill and boom, there's a cop

So, nimblefoot, you got the nickle tour too....well, maybe a bit more than a nickle....

nimble, you should have slid across the hood, crawled in through the window, and floored it, of course this would cause your tires to squeal even though you were on a dirt road...then when you came to the creek you could have lost the cop by jumping over the bridge that was out

Yeah, some that stuff comes across kind of funny with hind sight. The reality is I'm fortunate to have never killed or injured anyone. This was back in the days when cops would determine who was the most sober, designate them as the driver, and let you go...off to the next bar. I do recall that no one ever designated me as the driver...prob'ly as message in there somewhere.

If you're ever driving through Mundelein, IL, observe the speed limits, VERY closely. They can change by block and 3 mph over the limit is USUALLY okay, but 35 in a 30 zone, they gottcha.

BTW Good morning!

The snow baseball reminded me that we're playing volleyball in the hallway tomorrow moring. Apparently everyone has to sit on their butts and we string a line across the hall. We'll take on the classroom next door. :))

Happy Birthday Abby, aka Sassette in my book!

I just got back from a marathon run at the grocery. It has me really hating my diet right now. I think the worst offender junkfood wise that made it home was actually lemon poppyseed bran muffins, which Laurel loves. I'm making a big batch of veggie soup this afternoon. Rutabega, parsnips, carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, peas, beans, green beans, corn, etc., basically whatever is already lurking in the fridge and freezer that didn't come home with me today. The price of tomatoes and especially green bell peppers has me raring to get my garden going again.

Good morning from Melbourne, Florida, where winter has us in it's grip. Temps dipping down to the 40s this week. It's 61°F. --> 68°F., and windy, with a north northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph. Not near as bad as those 50+ mph winds that were bitting many of you living further north last night.

Just returned from my health club. Got my youngest daughter signed up again.

Could this be someone we know from TT? Naked Fla. man streaks through lot

Have a great day.

"Sassette," that's cute! Happy birthday from me, too. :-)

I know, treebait...I can't imagine who would ever buy tomatoes and green peppers for winter prices. At the organic store I shop at, the peppers were like EIGHT DOLLARS a pound!! I would imagine they just sit there and rot until someone throws them out...they didn't look in all that great condition when I saw them, LOL.

It's currently 35 here, with an expected high of 58. Normal for us. HPM's having it rough with his court case; he was up all night tossing and turning over decisions that need to be made. I won't talk about it yet. He's the foreman, too.

He had to leave early this morning to continue deliberations. As such, with all his banging around, Laurel's up really early too, more than a full hour earlier than she usually gets up. This is going to be an interesting day.

...and life emerges from the nightly fog that is the land of trailtalk. Headed for 45 here as well. If there's enough snow melt from the piles, I'm going to burn brush today. This is the residual from my tree chopping/splitting marathon a couple of years ago. Time to get rid of it so I can do it all over again this coming summer.
