As of last night she was still in pain in the Emergency Room, where they are continuing tests. Her kidneys had almost closed down from infection and/or dehydration, some related count was critically high and whatever. My daughter was feeling much better yesterday. Her condition had continued to deteriorate. So Monday night her doctor gave her the heaviest dose of steroids that he had used in 18 years. Initially, it appeared to arrest the deterioration. Related numbers from tests improved a little and she produced more and clearer urine, a good sign. We expect to learn more today as to a possible recovery. She was in real good spirits all day yesterday, a welcome contrast to previous days. Here is what I understand. When she entered the hospital her Creatinine tested to be at level 6. It became worse to level 7. After a strong dose of steroids, it dropped to 4, where it remanins today. (0.6 to 0.8 would be normal for her). She came within hours of requiring dialysis, which is no longer needed. She will be getting more steroids. A preliminary check show evidence of a kidney disease. It needs to be identified so that a treatment can be determined. She is out of danger and we are quite happy. It's a possibility that our little friend brought it over.” 7:18:36 AM 2/18/05 “My daughter was just released from the hospital. Her kidney problem is "an exceptional case of unknown cause." Her latest Creatinine tested to be at level 1.4. After most of the testing, one doctor said that she has Membranous Nephritis, most likely caused by Lupus, which is localized to the kidneys. About 40% of the kidney cells are affected, 60% are unaffected. However, her senior doctor does not feel that she has Lupus, since there is no other evidence of it anywhere in her body.
