good morning!

It's raining here. But I do have coffee. wanted to stay in bed but the dog had other ideas and I do have to work. I could be out bird hunting in this stuff but I don't think the birds like this stuff either.

Guess I just have to keep telling myself that this will just last another year and by this time next year I'll probably be able to do all this stuff on the weekends like I want to. (school will be done & I'll have a "real" job in my profession)

Better go and try to fake some studying before I go to work. The words are already running together.

Hey, Roam, you still alive down there?

NS,glad to see you're still alive and kicking

Everybody else in the SE, batten down the hatches. This puter doesn't want to keep me up-to-date on the hurricanes but I get bits and pieces here and there. TAKE CARE!

We're cloudy today, due to Ivan's outer bands looks like. We had a doozie of an afternoon storm yesterday. I'm suprised the power didn't go out again. Going to be 86 and very humid here. At least there's a nice breeze.

It's sunny now afer we got buckets of rain from Ivan last night and winds that sounded like someone walking on my roof for hours. The City overall seems to have been spared the worse of this storm...or so it looks for now. I only worry about the beautiful NC mtns...

Good morning. A FEMA representative was here, recorded damages and forwarded it somewhere from his labtop. He said that I will receive a letter in about five days, which will tell me what they will pay. It may even have a check. Then, I can write a letter submitting expenses for fleeing the area, since it was a mandatory evacuation. If I had bought a generator and/or chain saw, it would have been covered, too.

This is almost like fun. These FEMA people should come around more offen.

Have a great day. You deserve some fun.

I *wish* i was hiking near Flag' today. But alas, Im stuck here in MD for a family reunion-including my folks who just flew in from...Flagstaff. OK, actually
from Cottonwood.

I was assigned 'desserts' this year for the reunion so i made the choco-swirl cheesecake last night and the pecan pies are coming out of the oven in 5 minutes. When i make desserts, i make what i like. :)

All hurricane remnants are gone, and we almost have an arizona sky today. Ill take what i can get !

The remnants of Ivan have showed up in Jacksonville again, so now it's cool enough to shut off the AC, open the windows and enjoy the breezes. Hey, didn't I just do this for Frances?! LOL! My Soleri bell collection is just going nuts from this noreaster.

HPM's off to his new job, hooray! The problem is the pay cycle doesn't start for about a month, so it'll be tight again. Not fun. At least things will pick up now. Speaking of which, time to get cleaning.

mornin treebait, i was just noticeing last night how pleasant it was outside. no humidity at all.

Of course we did get a fair amount of rain overnight, so the reprieve was probably short lived.

I'm gonna experience the same hiccup in pay cycle with my new job next month. Hate it when that happens, but oh well.

Morning all. Was up until after midnight doing homework (unsuccessfully) and got up before 5AM to finish (but was again unsuccessful). Good morning.

FEMA did next to nothing for my hurricane damages. They sent me a load of paperwork.
"Enclosed you will find an SBA disaster loan application. ... If SBA determines you cannot afford a loan you will be referred to FEMA for possible assistance."
After I locate asome documents and file all this, the SBA will send out another inspector. I see myself being swallowed into the darkness of government paper work!

Fast help by the government??? This is bullcrap. I just want to go backpacking!

Have a good day.

I'm sorry for your situation Nowslimmer. I know how frustrating it is deal with insurance companies over home damage; I can't fathom what it's like to have to deal with the government and wait in a line of thousands to get your turn at some attention. Best of luck getting it all straightened out in a timely manner. Go for a hike if you can, it'll make things better (at least while you're gone, lol).

When we had the trees fall on our house we took off for eleven days hiking, got home and the insurance company wanted to know where we'd been and why the work wasn't started/completed. They withheld 20% of our repair funds because they were sure we'd taken a vacation with what they'd given us to get started. Truth of the matter was we'd planned a trip for a year and no holes in our roof were going to keep us from going. And what the insurance company awarded us wasn't enough to pay a contractor to do the repairs to the roof, just enough for supplies. It was a long drawn out battle for all the funds to repair everything damaged. We left the company afterwards. I still can't talk to an insurance agent without heart palpitations and stress, lol.

That's a terrible experience, Sassafras. I've been trying to get away for over two months and it's been one thing after another. But I want to go for two or three months and soon cold weather will be here. I, also, need the trip to shape-up, and before Oct. 15th, when I plan to hike with my youngest daughter. there is no longer enough time. It is extremely difficult for me to leave for a long period of time. I can not accomplish hardly any of my objectives on short trips.
