It's going to be an awesome day today. In the low 90's, no rain, only pur sunshine without clowds!!!

First REAL full day of school today for both kids, so no fighting, or yelling in the background.

Too bad I have to work. I may go b-day shopping for the teen today.

Showers and thunderstorms expected in the Northwoods today, high in the 60s. It's the forecast that's the kicker, though: two days of highs in the 50s starting Tuesday. Dang Canadian cold air masses ... don't they plague us enough all winter?

On the bright side, I got to pause on the campus drive coming in as a whitetail fawn was about to cross the road. As it dawdled, its twin leapt out of the woods and joined it, both having just the faintest remnants of their spots showing. Just as they made the other shoulder, other vehicles came up behind me and I had to drive on, but it was a pretty pleasant 30 seconds or so just before arriving at the office on a Monday.

Yes, we are getting those rains here in Northern Michigan also. I put my solo tent up the other day to check for any dry wrot, moth or mouse infestation, etc. Now I must leave it up till the rains pass and it dries out.

I had a friend ask me on Saturday when I put it up, "You're going when? And you're checking it out now?" Non backpackers just don't get my obsession with gear and trip preparation. LOL

Perfect timing this morning -- chilly and drizzly when the guy came to give us an estimate on a new furnace. Yikes, they're getting pricey, though what it will save through efficiency will pay for it in about 5 years. Still, it reminds me of what an old buddy said to me before I became a homeowner about being "house poor." Well, a couple more estimates to schedule and do more online research about the various brands before committing. Now, on to more editing work.

I agree roam. I can't even sit up in it on the high end. I hope I'm never caught in a heavy rainstorm in it unless I have a large book. Otherwise, I think I'd find myself walking around with my raincoat on. :)

I could really use a two person tent at times so I think when I get the money (haha) I'll get one of those next and retire the solo tent.

SD Light Year
I've got one and I don't find it confining. Of course I'm usually asleep in it. I can sit up in the high end, and I'm almost 6'.

The biggest problem I have with it is getting it pitched. It is a very tight pitch. I actually popped a stitch on one of the straps that hold a clip on earlier this year. I'm still using it though, and it hasn't popped again. I'm thinking that I may have to lengthen a strap or two on it so I don't tear it up one day just trying to pitch it.

Aero, if you see any of my kin down in Phoenix, say "hi" for me (I have a couple of aunts and numerous cousins 3 times removed down there). I saw your ex sister in law in LIbby over the weekend. Didn't have time to mention you though. As you can see, air conditioning is mandatory like furnaces up here. hee, hee. Next time, tell the boss to schedule that meeting in January!

A friend from Wisconsin is going to be here also.

Now that's a good early rising Yooper for you -- before 8:30 a.m. sunshine already figures the tent has had "all morning" to dry off, lol. But, yes indeed, its a gloriously sunny morning here in the Northwoods. Still only supposed to reach the mid 60s, but after these past few days of rain and low/mid 50s for highs, it's very welcome. Forecast for tonight is 40, so it will remain fleece weather in the evening. Tough week for the tourists who came to party on the lakes.

I've concluded that there is almost no place safe from Mothber Nature. You're correct, hurricanes are no fun. But, usually, one has enough notice that they can flee from them.

My biggest fear is the tornados that usually come with the hurricanes. There are few basements in Florida and probably no backyard tornado shelters, like in Oklahoma.

ScorchFire - Good point. After the storm is over, for most life continues the same as previously. Stress, fear, anxiety are gone. Emotions have dropped from high tension to relief. One looks out, sees the same views and continues doing the same things. For this area the storm is history. For the unfortunate who were in the storm's path, life will never be the same.

Got up bright and early this morning and took a hike up Windy Hill, about a 6 miles hike RT. The greatest thing is it's just right out the front door. Sunny down below but at the top, cool and breezy with the billowing fog pouring over the hilltop and winding through the cypress and pines. Really a fantastic way to start the day!

Have a good one, all!

Want to see what it's like in Wisconsin today? Turn on the PGA championship -- what a great tourism ad for the state's Lake Michigan coast with its sweeping beaches and dunes. Don't play golf, but I wish I was over at the big lake today, especially when I see the sailboats in the distance.

Good morning. Hope you're all OK and that TT returns to some sanity.

There are still a few people missing since Hurricane Charley blew past. Hope that electic power is restored in their areas soon.

Charley blew in some nice posters and, also, a bunch of trolls. They seem to come and go with the wind. A few regulars are showing their colors and strife is running loose. The blue moon lingers and has stirred some people into a fighting fury. Nalgene bottles are being stuffed and Matt is looking a bag in which he can freeze. (Thickness = warmth!)

Well, have a wonderful day. It looks like a great day for work and chores and avoidance of TT. Post at your own risk.
