“Hey simer! I thought of you and of prosecutor during my trip. I know I passed within close proximity of you both. It was a long day, though. We left at 8am and got home at 1am. The only fun we had was Lego Land. The rest of the trip was driving. Uhg! I live about 20 miles North of Houghton, Michigan.

I don't feel very ambitious this morning. I'm drinking coffee while Wyatt is skating around the house in rollerblades. I have to clean my car today because it was destroyed yesterday. I guess I better get busy. :o)”

I am off to go and hike in second growth Redwoods todays with some musician friends of ours. The we will return to the house and I will grill up 20 pounds of chicken wings with my special hot sauce.

“Didn't get to sleep in as much today, thanks to frisky cats bouncing on the bed and doing sumersaults in the bathtub. Thumpity thumpity thumpity. I had 1.5 cups of coffee this morning but I made it a little too strong and I'm heading for hyperactive. I feel like I'm vibrating but no visible jitters. I have gotten a lot of cleaning and stuff done so far though, and I already made the dessert for dinner at my parents' house. Double chocolate brownies. Cleaned most of the kitchen. laundry, tidying up, some yardwork, and all while listening to Thrill Kill. Yippee!”

“BTW, I survived my trip to the Rave to see Sonic Youth on Friday night. Two horrible, yet somehow endearing, opening noise bands who hopefully listened and watched carefully as SY showed their mastery of both catchy beats and walls - nay, oceans - of feedback. I can only describe SY as an art punk electric chamber quintet. Pretty amazing stuff.”

“I love TKK! I haven't seen them in years though. I'd love to. Hopefully they'll be somewhere around here in October, when they usually come through. One product I use for loud shows is those sticky silicone earplugs, for swimming. They cut out the pain and noise factor, but don't impinge on the music quality.”

“I've been listening to a lot of TKK lately. It's not helping my urge to bail on everyone here and go to the Smokies. They make some really good driving songs. The song "Lucifer's Flowers" would be good for a night drive on a moonlit night around the Smokies, eh?”

“I had planned to take some of the foam ear plugs to the Sonic Youth show, but forgot. I was worried, but the sound level wasn't as loud as I'd feared. No ringing ears afterward. Not that they weren't loud, but not painful loud. Nearly 25 years ago when I was an entertainment writer, I finally resorted to ear plugs for some concerts I covered, so I've tried to protect my hearing for some time, but fortunately this wasn't such a situation. Feedback and distortion in mega quantities, but those don't require absolute volume to be effective, as I was shown by SY.”

Waxtrax had a ton of good bands. I think I've seen TKK about 6 times. Definately a fav but difficult to blast at home with a 2 Y.O. around. Too easy for little mouths to pick up new phrases.”

“Well, here at the office, I do have to log in to post. We'll see if the glitch still happens at the home computer later, especially after I have to log out here. In any case, Sass, I've never had the energy to troll or borrow identities. Hard enough sometimes to be me.

One of the nice things about TKK, HPM, is they are eminently danceable -- although that's just another sin in some folks eyes. Talking to my friend who went to SY with me, who has a 3 1/2 year old and a 2 year old, he noted that his kids will never be able to rebel against their parents by playing weird music. Reino and I already had that experience with our kids -- nothing they could bring home could shock us. Though you're right, I suppose we did save TKK and certain others for when they were in bed or elsewhere. OTOH, they have always been right there in the CD rack and we never told them they couldn't listen to anything -- which takes away the forbidden fruit factor. It was interesting to see which CDs disappeared when my step-daughter moved out post HS. I knew my NIN would disappear, but she took all the Radiohead, too.”

Still have a chance of some rain & thunderstorms today, but supposed to be sunny and in the 70s the rest of the week (with a low in the 40s around Friday!). Our average temp for July was just 66F.”
