High again to be in the 50s. To do list: Go to Home Depot to get final gutter project supplies; get the gutters up in front;then transplant more donated hostas along the front of the house; then get the grill out for the inaugural bbq of the season, shishkibabs!” 7:20:36 AM 4/24/04 “Geez, I don't want to get up, but here I am. I've been in slug mode lately, and I'm trying to get out of it. Argh. Laurel was amped until 11 pm., when I made her stay in bed. Turns out when I was visiting her great grandparents last night, my Dad stuffed Laurel full of candy. Gee, thanks.” 7:24:23 AM 4/24/04 “Good morning.” 8:20:54 AM 4/24/04 “GOOD MORNING! It's pouring rain here, coming down like crazy. In two hours I get to run a race on trail. It's gonna be fun....cold and wet and slippery. You all have a great Sunday!” 4:16:57 AM 4/25/04 “Nice gentle light rain here at the moment, perfect for all the flowers and shrubs trying to bust out into green. I look at my post yesterday morning and none of it got done, lol; the gutter project was canceled and will go to a pro, the hostas are still in the pots they came in from our friends, and the bbq shishkibobs turned into sweet & sour chicken with fresh pineapple. Only the gutter thing was a disappointment. Other plantings got done instead of the hostas, and the dinner was yummy. Ah, the gurgle of the coffee maker tells me its ready. More good news!” 6:38:24 AM 4/25/04 “rain, what is rain?? it's nice so far, rumor is that we are getting rain and a short cold front starting Monday. Morning yall. My first sip of coffee in..... mmmmm...now!! that was good!!” 6:43:47 AM 4/25/04 “BTW, just to make nowslimmer happy about his choice of residence, that nice gentle northwoods rain is accompanied by a temp of 36. Which goes along with the first accomplishment yesterday afternoon -- putting up the new thermometer outside the kitchen window. Mmm, coffee is good. Who wants to grade my students' papers for me?” 6:44:05 AM 4/25/04 “While this is a "gettup" thread and a "good morning" thread it is, therefore, a "coffee" thread. I have noticed over the past several months that when I open a fresh container of coffee it produces a beverage that is much tastier then coffee made from the grounds toward the bottom of the container. I keep the coffee in an unrefrigerated space (though the house is kept at about 60 degrees) and in a tightly sealed container. A container lasts about 2 weeks. My questions are: Has anyone else noticed this in their own situation? Short of throwing away 3 to 4 days of coffee, do you know what to do about it? Now this is serious. We're talking coffee not backpacking tripe. What should I do? I'm reaching out here! And, oh yes, Good Morning. Coffee's piddly middle of the road.” 7:52:38 AM 4/25/04 “When it is preground coffee, it can't help but lose some of the volatile flavor chemicals every time you open the top. When I was a bachelor, and therefore not using up coffee so quickly, each time I made some java, I'd grind whole beans that I kept in a sealed bag in the freezer, though the latest I've read says just keeping the beans in the refrigerator is enough. I think keeping the ground coffee in the refrigerator will help some, but they will always dissipate a bit once you crack the can and then keep opening it.” 8:06:52 AM 4/25/04 “Good luck, Sass!!!! Be careful, it's a little nasty out there. Looks like I left the lawnmower out......damn! First, out to breakfast, then to REI, pick up the kids, write my rough draft for my final paper of the class, plant my garden seeds.” 8:30:34 AM 4/25/04 Coffee (like chocolate!)must be fresh! “I buy from Whole Foods grocery here in town. I grind whole beans as I use them. The coffee I am drinking now is Guatemala Antigua roasted 4/22. Melitta single cup drip is how I brew it. A pound lasts me a week or week and a half.” 9:23:40 AM 4/25/04 “Yes, whole beans are the way to go. I used to keep them in the freezer, too, but now the recline peacefully in the pantry until their date with the grinder. If you don't want to mess with a grinder, you might want to consider one of those vacuum-sealed containers. They can be evacuated with with one of those FoodSaver doodads or (if I recall) the hand pump for saving wine (Vacuvin) now sells containers if you prefer something more low-tech and less noisy.” 10:38:28 AM 4/25/04 “Morning...hugs......just stopping by to wish everyone a happy Monday....we sure did get a bunch of rain in Alabama yesterday, but had a wonderful, sunny, warm weekend, for the most part... :( I sure miss everyone in here....seems like everyone is never here when I am...y'all just need to get up earlier!!!! ok...almost time to leave for work.....hugs...” 3:38:54 AM 4/26/04 “mornin' all” 4:19:34 AM 4/26/04 “good morning, good morning, good morning....it's time to rise and shine.... for some damned reason... it's gonna be agolden day!” 4:30:19 AM 4/26/04 “It better be... it's supposed to rain from now til tomorrow night : (” 4:31:33 AM 4/26/04 “And my smiley is cut off! : (” 4:31:46 AM 4/26/04 “yeah, morning to all of you I guess” 4:48:56 AM 4/26/04 “About 37 degrees, forecast for a high in the low 40s with chance of rain or snow showers. That about says it all on a Monday morning. That and my sore back and hip from digging in the yard to plant flowers. They better be pretty. (Can you tell, no coffee yet?)” 6:40:20 AM 4/26/04 “hang it there Gem!” 6:43:18 AM 4/26/04 “I'm better now. Had my java. :) It's suppose to rain here today. We'll see. I can do without it. They gonna raise the water price no matter what.” 6:46:57 AM 4/26/04 “Good morning.” 8:32:35 AM 4/26/04 “Buenos dias! A sparkling 27 as the sun rises over the North Woods, headed to the lower 40s. The forecast is for a 30 degree jump between today and Wednesday. The big tease.” 5:29:34 AM 4/27/04 “Morning all. I"m already at work, ready to start what looks to be a 15 hour day. Yippee. I had a job interview yesterday. Is it appropriate to send a thank-you over e-mail?” 5:35:04 AM 4/27/04 “Good morning, Moving slowly and with great reluctance today. 23 degrees at the moment with a high of 57. Tomorrow we're supposed to get a spike of 85. Too hot! How can that be? My attitude has really sucked lately; can't hardly get myself to do anything. Today is the day I deal with myself, work through all the inertia and get back on track with living. Although I believe that a philosophy of being gentle with yourself is a good thing, some days you just have to kick your own butt to get moving. This is such a day. Have a great butt kicking day!” 5:35:34 AM 4/27/04 “Good morning you all. No rain today, but highs in the mid 50s here in Illinois. Grass is cut, so it's biking this afternoon.” 6:55:26 AM 4/27/04 “I'm up, HPM's up. Heck, even Laurel's up early, but that's because of a diaper failure. Fun.” 7:05:40 AM 4/27/04 “yupp, me up too. :) rained yesterday, today no rain, highs around 78, sunny. going to be a great day.” 7:12:18 AM 4/27/04 “I wish it would rain here. IT's been nearly a month since we had any measurable rain.” 7:13:23 AM 4/27/04 “What a day yesterday was. We are in the process of wrapping up getting our finances in order for when I quit in the next couple of weeks. We got approved for a loan, but the bank wanted both the van and car as collateral. No prob, we thought and we made arraignments to sign. Then I thought, -- If the bank want to hold the van, doesn’t that mean we couldn’t get rid of it? (For those who don’t know, at this point, we are completely beside ourselves with distain over our ’98 Ram Van. That thing is the bane of my existence!). Whoa! Put the brakes on the signing and start thinking about our new dilemma. We have to get these bills in order, but we also have to get rid of the van. Long story short, we wind up meeting with a sales guy late last night, at a dealership that’s about 70 miles away (Milan, MI – it cost us almost 20 bucks in “Van Gas” to get there--), and bought a new car. The best part: The dealership paid off my van in full; a situation that we both thought we’d have to take a big hit on. Plus, my payment is less than the van by 20 bucks (which is what we were shooting fer). I’ve at least doubled my gas mileage, which will save us a lot on gas! (It’s nice to put five bucks in the tank and see the needle jump up to ¼ of a tank!). I was real surprised and happy that the emissions on this car (Chevy Caviler) were better than the Honda Civic we were looking at last month. It’s got an engine that’s a size or two bigger than a lawnmower engine, but I’ll be styling when I’m out doing my paper route!” 7:49:08 AM 4/27/04 “we had a good rain overnight Treebait, looked like it was moving north, kinda strange, but maybe it'll get to you.” 7:50:28 AM 4/27/04 “Good deal Q. Stuff works out when you are going in the right direction! But.....how much gear does it hold?? :-) Morning all” 7:51:44 AM 4/27/04 “The trunk is small and it's a two door model, but it's got enough room for me and up to two other hikers, depending on if there ultra lites or not ;) Two hikers very comfortably.” 7:55:04 AM 4/27/04 “Well, I've never had a car with an engine much bigger than a lawn mower, but I really like my Cavalier. I've got a 4-door model though. Wanna race them, Q??” 8:24:54 AM 4/27/04 Roam Around “Nope, it passed north of us. The beaches get less rain because of the heat bubble effect the heavily developed downtown area creates. I've got my sprinklers going now. It's one of those days. Laurel's up early becasue of problems, HPM's car died and he works 35 miles away. My Mom is giving him a ride right now because she's going to a quilting and embroidery store 2 miles away from where he works. He normally leaves 8 am est, but just now left. Did I mention my Mom is an exceedingly defensive and slow driver?” 9:03:37 AM 4/27/04 “that is to funny LQ, thank you for thinking of us backpakers when you were shopping around for a new car. nice to know I can fit into your new car comfy. :)” 9:13:21 AM 4/27/04 “"Wanna race them, Q??....." yer on! Racing for pinks slips? LOL! I'd rather I got the 4 door, but this one just got dropped off at the dealer an hour before we got there. I'm glad to hear that you have had a good experiance, SG. I didn't get a chance to look it up/research it.” 9:29:52 AM 4/27/04 “"thank you for thinking of us backpakers when you were shopping around for a new car......" When my wife asked how big the trunk was, I told her, in front of the sales guy, "I could fit two/three backpacks in there easy"........:)” 9:32:35 AM 4/27/04 “Good Only a trace of rain hit Melbourne.” 11:55:13 AM 4/27/04 “Some rain showers did arrive in Melbourne, Florida, this afternoon. Rain, grass, cutting,$$$ for the lawn service!” 3:32:32 PM 4/27/04 “We got ours yesterday. Clear, windy and cooler, today. I think I'll take the weasel out for a romp. It'll be one of the last ones before the heat takes over and she's restricted to air conditioning --- the little buggers don't tolerate the heat well at all.” 3:45:04 PM 4/27/04 “Woooo Hooooo A very beautiful day in Alabama...and everything is sooo green!!!!!!” 4:10:20 PM 4/27/04 “wake up ya lazy bums!” 4:17:15 AM 4/28/04 “been up for an hour. only 37 out this morning.” 5:15:24 AM 4/28/04 “Baume 66 - I believe you're in Richmond - and it's only 37? It's 45 in NW Wisconsin and supposed to get up to 85. That's a jump of 35 degrees in one day. Looks like a longer day on the river in the kayak with a long, leisurely stroll back. I'm utilizing all the coffee advice I received here a few days ago and the result is much improved. Next shipment I'm going with whole beans. Aerobics yesterday followed by a nice long hike with pack. I think I kicked that inertia. Have a great day.” 6:08:15 AM 4/28/04 “46 F or somethign like this. Too cold for me. I turned on the heat. LOL Morning!! Did ya all hear me?? GOOD MORNING!!!!!!!!” 6:24:23 AM 4/28/04 “What? Speak up! It's a long way up here.” 6:29:38 AM 4/28/04 “Good Morning Everyone. 60 something here, and a high of about 80. It's really dry, and the dust motes floating in the sumbeams are pretty yet dismaying. It's going to be an allergy day. I'm also out of coffee, which really really sucks.” 7:26:36 AM 4/28/04 “ooooooohhhhh, NEVER run out of coffee treebait, check the bp supplies, you might find a stash in there.” 7:29:39 AM 4/28/04 Jump to Page << prev
