RedwingsView MessagesWhere's Geezr?? “Can't believe I just checked the Montanapalooza thread and it's been, what, almost 12 hours since the 'wings won the game last night, and Geezr hasn't even posted any cheerleading?! Mother-in-law from Michigan is visiting; we turned the game on seconds after goal #2, and just in time to catch goal #3; loud cheering ensued. Yee haw!” 8:58:08 AM 6/07/02 “I caught the first period and it looked like the Wings were pretty intense.” 9:02:04 AM 6/07/02 “It was a suprisingly good game for both sides. I was very impressed. Hill and Hull are a couple of brutes! Hasek looked off his game for most of the evening, but pulled through.” 12:02:53 PM 6/07/02 Welcome To Hockey Town “Martyb, What a great game! I thought about your dad and Gordie in between the hoopin' and hollerin'. I just started and eleven day stretch at work. I get up at 4 A.M. to ride the bike to work so in the sack right after the game. No time to celebrate. Just getting home now and on my way to pop an Old Faithful Pale Ale and hit my favorite chair out on the deck!” 2:37:04 PM 6/07/02 “Yuck!!!! 8|” 3:18:37 PM 6/07/02 “I just love the way I look in red and white. :o)” 9:27:16 PM 6/07/02 “Thank God! I thought this was a thread about eatin' once a month pu$$y.” 12:30:38 AM 6/08/02 “They rock!!!! I've spent many night in my 699's !” 6:27:04 AM 6/08/02 “Go Canes! Home Ice advantage tonight. Nobody expects them to win,but a good effort would be greatly appreciated.” 7:04:00 AM 6/08/02 “Aaaaah, poor skibaby! I guess even goodlooking guys can have poor taste. ;o)” 9:07:57 AM 6/08/02 WingsGo Up In Series 2-1 “Tonight the 'Canes find out what a REAL WHOOPIN' feels like!!!!!!!” 1:41:22 PM 6/08/02 “Wings in 5 or 7. They want to win it at home for all the party people in D-Town! GO WWWWWWIIIIIINNNNNNGGSSSSS!!!!!!!!” 1:41:34 PM 6/08/02 “Wings in 5 or 7? That's what I liked about you, laqtis. Commitment” 5:54:18 PM 6/08/02 “I guess Terry Sawchuck and Gordie Howe were too much for the 'Canes! I think the Wings must have set a record for hitting the pipe! Boink! Boink boink! Boink!” 10:30:22 AM 6/09/02 “Nice shot Igor. Not bad for an old fart eh.” 10:38:00 AM 6/09/02 “Man, I'm still wiped out. I was west of Kalamazoo when the game started. I raced home thinking I'd barely catch the third. Little did I know... I have to give it up for the Hurricanes. They are definitely a great opponent. And Pavel Datsyuk is going to be the next great star.” 12:03:03 PM 6/09/02 “Here on the east coast, it was pushing midnight when the second overtime ended. I caught the first two overtime periods and that was some interesting hockey. It seemed to me the 'Canes were outsized by the Wings, but still plugging away and making a game of it. The question was who was going to crash first.” 12:13:43 PM 6/09/02 “The 'canes are winners in my book.” 12:58:23 PM 6/09/02 “The scoreboard says they lost. They did put up a great fight though. Good hockey going on.” 1:00:14 PM 6/09/02 “I wear a pair of Redwings. Very comfortable and rugged. I would buy another pair.” 1:40:43 PM 6/09/02 Martyb “Game Four, 5:00 Pacific! GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 4:54:12 PM 6/10/02 “Oh yes. My mother-in-law (visiting) has already reminded me. Guess dinner is in the living room tonight.... Think the guys could make about a 1/8" adjustment on some of those shots from the other night?? Clank! Ping! Ting! ...” 5:05:04 PM 6/10/02 I Wish I Was There “Unfortunately, I'll be at a Tim McGraw concert, Malinda's belated birthday present. Man, I wish I could figure out how I paint myself into these corners. I'm hoping it goes into three OT's and I manage to catch the end. Like that's really going to happen.” 5:20:56 PM 6/10/02 “Yuck! 8(” 5:25:14 PM 6/10/02 Mike You're Right “CMB, Sometimes life sucks Mike!” 5:27:24 PM 6/10/02 “Look I just have to say that hockey has been a big part of my life and I have always been a big Blackhawks fan I know you guys love the Wings but the best game I ever saw between the 2 was 2 years aro at the UC it ended up 7-7 tie now that was a game! 8)” 5:29:38 PM 6/10/02 “Hopefully you guys will see an equally exciting game tonight!” 5:40:06 PM 6/10/02 “I just hope they make a game of it! 8)” 6:08:00 PM 6/10/02 “I just hope it's not 3 flippin overtimes again. That killed me. The hurricanes blow! GO WINGS!” 6:45:39 PM 6/10/02 So far so good! “This is the first game of the playoffs I've actually been able to watch. I came in after the first period and got to see the Red Wings score! Oh the joy! I really should get cable or a dish or something. I need to watch more hockey!” 8:57:06 PM 6/10/02 “One more win and Lord Stanley come back home! I think the air is outta the sails for the 'Canes. I must say, this has been one hell of a series!” 10:01:40 PM 6/10/02 “Man, I hope the Wings put it away in game 5. Otherwise I'll be on N. Manitou Island and miss the whole celebration. Any way I can rig up a TV on the island? Hehe.” 10:52:31 PM 6/10/02 “3 goals to 0 for the Wings.” 12:18:18 AM 6/11/02 “All I have to say is Thank God for Canada. CBC's coverage of the game is so much better than ABC's. The guys calling the game on ABC are lame.” 7:21:30 AM 6/11/02 “We were at a bar last night to watch the Wings... the power went out just before the third period. So, we went back to a friend's place cause they still had power... Their cable was out. So, while we listened on the radio, Max ran home and grabbed the rabbit ears and we were able to watch the last few minutes of the third period. It was all worth it! p.s. no storm here. no idea why people lost power and cable access... strange!” 7:36:16 AM 6/11/02 “A terrorist plot, no doubt.” 4:11:14 PM 6/11/02 “ Redwings News Page RALEIGH, N.C. -- Late in the third period Monday night, with the Red Wings leading, 3-0, Harry Wilson Jr. stood on the concourse outside Section 115 of the Entertainment and Sports Arena. He was wearing his red Chris Chelios jersey. Other Wings fans who made the trip here for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals were celebrating. Wilson was not. "I just want to know what happened to my brother," he said as he leaned against a post. "I just want to make sure he is OK." Mike Wilson had come down from his third-level seat, slipped past the Section 115 security guard and walked down until he found an open seat next to other Wings fans. Then he whispered his secret. "I," he said, "have got an octopus." At the next stoppage in play, Mike scooted down toward the ice and let go a pass that would make Joey Harrington jealous. The octopus landed right in front of Hurricanes goalie Arturs Irbe. He shoots, he scores! And he walks back up and gets jumped by a half-dozen or so 'Canes fans, who promptly start beating him. Harry, 34, and Mike, 25, are fourth-generation firefighters for the Detroit Fire Department. They are used to dangerous missions. They didn't think this would be one of them. Now the stands were emptying out and Harry still couldn't find his brother. He asked security guards. He asked cops. He walked around the concourse. Finally, when he learned that Mike had definitely not been arrested, Harry walked out of the arena with his father and a couple of friends. That's where they found Mike, in the West parking lot, leaning against their white pickup truck with the "Livonia Hockey" sticker in the back window. He was sipping a beer and feeling giddy. "They couldn't have given me a bruise that I'd feel right now," Wilson said. "If they'd broken my arm I'd be out here right now, celebrating. An octopus on the ice! It had to be done." Wilson said most of the punches were to the chest and stomach. No serious injuries. Then he went through the play-by-play of his day. The Wilsons and some firefighter buddies all drove down from Detroit for Game 4. (They had bought the tickets hoping to see the Wings finish a sweep.) They found a hole-in-the-wall fish shop that sold octopi. Who could resist? The only potential trouble came when Mike tried to bring the octopus into the arena. He was worried that security guards would confiscate it. "But they didn't see," Mike said proudly. "I crotched it." Next thing the Wilsons knew, they were doing an interview with Fox 2. Just as Wings fans who drove down for the game. No mention of the octopus. "We didn't want to blow our cover," Mike said. Everything went perfectly for most of the night. Friends called their cell phones to say the Wilsons had been seen on TV. The Wings were winning. And the octopus sat at Mike's feet, ready to be tossed. Everything was perfect, right up to the point where the octopus hit the ice. Then one 'Canes fan came up to Mike and said, "You're not getting away with that here." Then the punches came, a scuffle that was visible from everywhere in the arena. Fans who were leaving anyway hurried out of the section. Mike had nearly been arrested himself, but when he showed his firefighter badge, the cop let him go. The Wilsons said that just about everybody else in Raleigh had been incredibly nice to them. They weren't about to let a few bitter fans spoil their opinion of the place. And as far as they are concerned, Mike was some sort of hero. "The real heroic thing," said Harry Sr., "was how he sat with the octopus for the whole game. That thing really stunk."” 5:27:58 PM 6/11/02 “The little woman won't be dragging me out tomorrow night. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 9:49:53 PM 6/11/02 “Game 5 is Thursday night. Geezr, take here out tomorrow night and be really nice so you can watch the whole thing. Anyone going to the parade on Monday?” 12:02:45 AM 6/12/02 “LOL Sunshine. RL - If they win on Thursday, wouldn't the parade be sooner? Or are you assuming they'll lose on Thursday and win on Saturday?” 8:04:07 AM 6/12/02 “My understanding is that there is a festival at Hart Plaza on the weekend. I'm just going by the guys on WDFN. Maybe not the best source of info., but I'm going with it for now.” 10:23:45 AM 6/12/02 “Gotcha. Well, if there is a parade in Detroit, Max will quite likely attend.” 10:34:35 AM 6/12/02 “Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would not say the word "Parade" on the radio this morning (WWJ) hoping he would not jinx the team, but he did allude to the congratulatory festivities on MOnday. The same people who would pull the parade together are also working on the Freedom Festival right now.” 10:53:23 AM 6/12/02 Darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Reformed Hiker, I arrived home from work and was counting the hours until they dropped the puck. Then I read the paper and saw your post. Oh well, like I said, no way is the wife dragging me out tomorrow night (Thursday) ;-)” 3:43:15 PM 6/12/02 “T-9 hours....” 10:10:56 AM 6/13/02 “I might have to skip the scout meeting again tonight. Darn... Kwame Kilpatrick? That's the name of the current mayor? I get this weird mental image of a cross between Pat Buchannan and Coleman Young. He was still mayor when I left Michigan. Guess it's been a while!” 10:14:46 AM 6/13/02 “LOL! This guy is very young and very large! I haven't formed an opionon on him yet. Although, he did thing the Detroit Red Wings were playing the Miami Hurricanes.” 10:19:15 AM 6/13/02 “LOL tarabull!” 10:24:36 AM 6/13/02 “Kwame used to play football, and commented on the radio that he'd be happy to have a chance to knock some guys down out there, but not on ice. The other company in my building is having Red Wings Spirit day - I've seen one lady with her face painted, the old-lady receptionist has a big ol' Red Wings hat on. Even the Arby's employees had Red Wings t-shirts on today. They are planning to close the freeway ramps during the game if the wings are winning, to keep too many people from heading down to cause trouble. I'm not sure why they're anticipating any trouble downtown. Last time the Wings won, Royal Oak took a beating, but there was no trouble downtown.” 2:29:20 PM 6/13/02 LET'S GO WINGS “Martyb, Are you and your mother-in-law ready? Tonight IS the night!!!!!!!” 4:09:25 PM 6/13/02
