“I remember one time in Virginia close to 20 years ago and I was scouring the churches looking for one that fit. I don't recall which denomination it was, but during the sermon the preacher said something that was so completely against women that I almost fell out of my pew. Later, downstairs in the basement, I attended Bible study. It was a mixed race group led by an older white man. This man, in his lesson, stated how there is proof in the Bible that "Nigras" actually did descend from apes. No one protested, just quietly sitting drinking their kool-aid and nodding their heads. So we find that it is ok to bash those within organized religion but not for them to bash those who don't go to church. We find that religious people are hypocrites but people who are not aren't. We find that it's bad for religious people to judge the non religious but it's ok to judge religious people. We find it's bad for religious people to lump all non religious people together but it's ok to lump all religious people together. Religious people and churches have killed many many people while non religious people and churches seem to get a pass.

God is infallible, humans are not. One of the things I have observed is that those with deep guilt issuses do tend to involve themselves in religeon to the extreme. I guess they figure it is easier to hope God will help them then to be responsible and help themselves. It is a shame that all too often churches tend to preach feel good nonsense with no real basis in scripture rather then any truth that might drive people away.”

As an ordained, Christian minister of the evangelical bent I hear loud and clear the sarcasm and contempt that Haggard's failure has stirred up. And I acknowledge it's legitimacy and relevance. I grieve deeply that those of you who do not see the faith as anything but a laughing stock now have greater ammunition with which to fill your files. It is indeed a sad commentary on the state of the church and our own witness.

Yet at the same time, scripture acknowledges that the Gospel is offensive to those who hear but reject it. So while I acknowledge the offense which you perceive and the rejection you acknowledge, I find myself wondering what is at work in your own lives that causes such a reaction. Clearly the joy at seeing failure overwhelms the sorrow of suffering. I find that sad.”

“Deputy Secretary of State Randall L. Tobias submitted his resignation Friday, one day after confirming to ABC News that he had been a customer of a Washington, D.C. escort service whose owner has been charged by federal prosecutors with running a prostitution operation.
