Sarge, if you'd have actually read the piece you'd have found a far better quote than that.

Unless, you are confusing seasonal changes and re-distribution of warmth with planetary climate change - I don't see it at all.

pedxing - Their point isn't that it will change back next winter. This might require thinking for yourself a little bit.

They have posted several articles on this site about Mars' planetary climate change. This is one of several.

LOL Sarge - can't you find something in the article to back up your claim?

I mean if it was worth posting surely there is something in it that supports your point?

Surely there is something better you can say than "They have posted several articles on this site about Mars' planetary climate change."
pedxing

My reference to the seasonal changes was this:

"his means that as Mars' axis tilted to the extremes - up to 60 degrees from the plane of Mars' orbit - the Martian poles get a whole lot more sunshine in the summertime than they do now. That extra sun would likely sublime water from the polar ice caps, explains Head."

That was the closest I could come to finding a statement about warming and its discussing the difference in the seasons.

They aren't talking about seasons. Period.

It's "ongoing climate shifts".

Note the quotes.

How is Mars' climate shifting?

It's warming.

Do you deny that? If so, you disagree with anybody studying it.

pedxing - Why do you seem to quick to limit discussion of possible causes of earth's climate changes to things that would not suggest a natural cause?
SARGEantSlaughter

Sarge -

Sarge the article you link to refers to ongoing shifts and to flux. It mentions the summers at one point as well. There is no where that it says that there is an steady warming trend. If you have a link to an article that says that there has been an ongoing warming trend on Mars, I'd be interested to see it, especially if it comes from a reasonably reliable source.

I challenge you to find one place where I have been "quick to limit discussion of possible causes of earth's climate changes to things that would not suggest a natural cause."

Much earlier on this thread, I wrote:

“I think the evidence that the earth is warming is overwhelming. The big questions are: 1) what is causing the trend? 2) What can we do about it? 3) How far will it go.

It seems plausible to me that human activity is causing the warming. However, I haven't seen enough evidence to convince me. I still have a very open mind on this. Maybe if I understood things better I would have a stronger opion. I don't know.”

Now Sarge - I will have to take a look at the evidence on Mars warming. But note here, you published a link anouncing that it was a "similar one about Martian global warming too." It wasn't similar and it didn't say that Mars was warming.
Now if the shoe was on the other foot, you would be lambasting me for lying, accusing me of being a phoney - posting an article I hadn't read while characterizing an article someone else posted that I hadn't read. If I make a mistake, you say I am a liar and a phoney - if you make a mistake you keep trying to pretend it didn't happen as on the New Orleans thread while attacking anyone who points it out.

Will this pattern be repeated with respect to what I am so "so quick to dismiss?"

First off, thanks for illustrating my point about your resort to personal attacks when your errors are pointed out.

Now, what was my "NO" comment?

Is asking you to actually show from the article itself that it said what you said it did asking too much, is it a sign of close mindedness and bias?

It's getting to be a little repetitive "Pay no attention to the facts, they are being pointed out by a bad man!"

Global warming or not

natural cycle or human influenced or not

there is still no doubt that in more ways than imaginable

the human population is making the world rapidly into a place which will be able to sustain far fewer living beings

and this sustenance will be in a much uglier and deteriorated scene.

In terms of what I believe,

100 years from now the human population of this world will be as low or lower than it was 100 years ago and not necassarily by choice.

I read where the Brazilian government plans to encourage the conversion of as much as possible of the Amazon Basin to soybean production for ethanol.

Anyone familiar with tropical soils knows such conversion will only yield crops for a few years even with intense fertilizer and then for decades almost nothing will grow on those soils and they will just wash away

and besides the Amazonian rain-forest is credited with generating a high percentage of the oxygen on Earth.

Not to mention what Malaysia and Indonesia are doing to the rain forests of the island of Borneo.

How do we know that global warming, if there is global warming is not caused by an increase in solar activity?. A fraction of a degree increase in solar activity will fry this place.

Has anyone suggested that the US offer a place to live to every person currently living in Brazil, Malaysia, and Borneo.
Of course Borneo has another problem in that the Indonesian government is settling Borneo to ease overcrowding in Java the worlds most densely populated island, so we have to take all Java overflow as well.

I really like the analogy used in the Matrix where humans are compared to parasitic viruses, constantly increasing in population and laying waste to the host environment.

We have way too many people folks, which makes those who want to use those resources to save the non-productive such as Terri Schiavo, and the unwanted unborn, the worst anti-environmentalists of all.

I fear the Earth is in a boom and bust cycle where humans will increase until the Earths resources can no longer support the needs, be it food, water, or inability to break down the waste products, then a mass die-off such as happens in the animal world with overgrazing.

While Java is a very crowded place, the average Javan has a very small impact (or you might say footprint on the world, that is the amount of space required to sustain them)

the average American has a huge footprint on the Earth and so in effect the US is about the most crowded place in the world and has no room for anymore (unless the average footprint is signifigantly reduced).

It is not the job of the US to provide a space for anyone, each individual makes their own choices.

I predict a day when the huge network of highways has very little traffic and many houses will be sitting empty with no buyer at any price.

True, what separates us from most species is our success and adaptability, or in viral terms, our virulence.
Some species are specialists and will not spread like humans do, but I suppose they would overpopulate their niche without other forces blocking them.
The only exception I can think of off-hand is the lemming which, for whatever reason, keeeps its own population down quite effectively.

Really? They're known for the having a booming population. It's been hypothesized that they reproduce out of control out of thin air. So to say they keeep their own population down quite effectively is an outright lie.

Stop lying pedxing.
