Tell us how we are bigger than nature.” saleboring Human emotion doesn't show a direct correlation to co2 output. As co2 risen, so do stock prices? The two are mutually exclusive. But, it sure is fun to use Confuscious-like metaphors to make your point, right?” 9:01:39 AM 12/11/08 “Oooohh... That reminds me of some SOLID Science!!! Check it out! ![]() it comes from www.venganza.org Open Letter To Kansas School Board I am writing you with much concern after having read of your hearing to decide whether the alternative theory of Intelligent Design should be taught along with the theory of Evolution. I think we can all agree that it is important for students to hear multiple viewpoints so they can choose for themselves the theory that makes the most sense to them. I am concerned, however, that students will only hear one theory of Intelligent Design. Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. It was He who created all that we see and all that we feel. We feel strongly that the overwhelming scientific evidence pointing towards evolutionary processes is nothing but a coincidence, put in place by Him. It is for this reason that I’m writing you today, to formally request that this alternative theory be taught in your schools, along with the other two theories. In fact, I will go so far as to say, if you do not agree to do this, we will be forced to proceed with legal action. I’m sure you see where we are coming from. If the Intelligent Design theory is not based on faith, but instead another scientific theory, as is claimed, then you must also allow our theory to be taught, as it is also based on science, not on faith. more here: http://www.venganza.org/about/open-letter/ last edited: 12/11/08 9:06:33 AM” 9:06:28 AM 12/11/08 “XXXXL gloves?? I have an inlaw whos Phd is in this very subject. Over the years his views have leaned toward my long terms more than they have toward the generally accepted. As more and more we find the super natural being defined in terms of reality, the mysteries of old fade into the sands of time.” 9:21:56 AM 12/11/08 “That's just what the FSM wanted you to see... ;) :p :)” 9:33:02 AM 12/11/08 “ManBearPig” 9:37:10 AM 12/11/08 “I have an inlaw whos Phd is in this very subject. I wish I had an in-law with a Phd on this subject with an opposing view. Then we'd be at deadlock again.” 9:51:52 AM 12/11/08 “There's very little difference between the global warming Chicken Littles and the religious Chicken Littles. Both use fear and both declare the debate closed.” 9:52:59 AM 12/11/08 “You could say that about anybody who warns against immenent danger, Perhaps it's their compassion for saving life that's the commonality. Let's pooh-pooh them for that. Good idear.” 9:57:51 AM 12/11/08 “The wind blows in all directions-noone out on any limb is safe. Licken Chittles unit for the fight to rid 'TT' of it's bright.” 10:07:04 AM 12/11/08 “I find it is a much more common problem dealing with a person's own insecurity with their chosen beliefs. A person who feels their ideological foundation being attacked or eroded is capable of doing a lot of terrible things. I've even seen such people driven to call women misogynistic names like "tits" and call them fat when they feel even slightly challenged.” 10:07:52 AM 12/11/08 “Sorry to hear that you hold women to a lower standard. I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're capable of taking it when they dish it out. Perhaps I was mistaken.” 10:11:12 AM 12/11/08 “No, I hold them to a higher level of respect. But then, that has never been your strong suit when dealing with males or females.” 10:16:50 AM 12/11/08 “When I'm speaking to a woman, I don't pretend she wants special treatment when she attacks somebody. At that point, she's no longer a lady. I will treat a lady with respect. "Respect" isn't just a word, it means something. It's not something everyone deserves, regardless of your sexist stereotypes. I reserve special treatment for a female that attacks like she does. Come to think of it, I can't say I've ever met a female like that in real life, at least not anyone I've had the 'pleasure' of knowing personally.” 10:26:06 AM 12/11/08 “No, I hold them to a higher level of respect. - Nigal like this? “Birch said it had something to do with a nakid chick dancing around swatting herself in the a s s. LOL (takes bow)” 11:54:42 AM 12/11/08 “For the first time in nearly four years, snow fell across the New Orleans region this morning, with flurries reported on the north shore and in the city, Metairie, Kenner, LaPlace and other parts of the south shore. By around 10 a.m., the snow had mostly stopped, replaced by freezing rain in many places, making driving treacherous. By noon, the precipitation had mostly ceased altogether. By mid-morning, enough snow had accumulated on the ground in some areas to lure children and adults onto their front lawns to build snowmen or have snowball fights. In the city, neutral grounds remained blanketed in white, though the streets generally remained clear as the wet stuff melted upon hitting the pavement. In Mandeville, where the snow was heavier, lawns were covered with thicker blankets of white fluff as school buses filled with squealing students made the rounds. Children, most seeing snow for the first time Christmas Day 2004, tried to catch flakes in their hands as the buses rumbled along. Eliot Kamenitz/The Times-Picayune New Orleans Metro area residents woke up to falling snow on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Snow in New Orleans is a rarity. The last time it snowed was Christmas 2004; before that, the last snow recorded was in 1989, according to Jim Vasilj, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. Since 1850, snow had fallen in "measurable amounts" rather than traces in the city just 17 times, Vasilj said. Of the 17, today's snowfall was the earliest in the season recorded.” 11:57:04 AM 12/11/08 “(stop me if you've heard this one...) Almost seven years ago I did a programming internship at Goddard Space Flight Center just outside DC, at the Climate and Radiation Branch (the radiation in this case being solar). Being the space nut I am, I was in hog heaven. I had a few mindbending discussions with Dennis Chesters, the Project Scientist for the GOES satellites. You know those nifty water vapor loops and such that are shown on the Weather Channel... each one is processed by his team at the Laboratory for Atmospheres at Goddard. But the main activity at the Branch is the study of climate. Every climate specialist there (and there were plenty) appeared to be convinced that global climate change was occurring and that it was driven by our activities. The only debates they had concerned how bad it was going to be. I've kept in touch with a couple of them and they are just as convinced as they ever were, if not more, by the data that have come in since. They compare it to the situation with the Antarctic ozone hole. Industries whose bread and butter was the production of ozone-depleting substances fought tooth and nail to discredit the research. Now we have coalmining interests and power companies who burn coal playing the same game. They can no longer deny that atmospheric carbon dioxide is increasing geometrically... but now they say that it's Great For Plants! Can we all use it, noncon?” 12:05:50 PM 12/11/08 “Nobody wants to post average global temperatures for the last 10 years? You'd think with all the global warming experiments going on, SOMEBODY from that camp would be excited to show us those annual numbers. - crickets -” 12:25:31 PM 12/11/08 “Hiker... you just asked for the avg temp of the last 10 years... you claimed a decrease in temperature... Goddard says otherwise. The numbers may be useless, I was just providing you with the information you asked for...” 12:26:07 PM 12/11/08 “Barack Obama's transition team is all "NASA, what's up?" "Global Temperature Anomalies in .01 C,"” 12:29:02 PM 12/11/08 “ickyma, here is what I asked for - average global temperature for each year from 1998-2008 I'll settle for up to 2007” 12:29:43 PM 12/11/08 “Avg. Temperature increase during the past 100 years. (Global Temp. in °C) The black line is the annual global mean. The red line is the 10-year running mean. The grey area is the 95% confidence interval of the same data, calculated for the 50 years up to and including each year's measurement. The diagram illustrates several aspects of global warming, the most obvious of which is the increase in mean temperature. However, also the confidence interval has increased both in value (i.e., warmer climate) and in width (i.e., more variable temperature). ”12:31:23 PM 12/11/08 Jump to Page << prev
