Today, Director of the SSRC, John Casey has reaffirmed earlier research he led that independently discovered the sun’s changes are the result of a family of cycles that bring about climate shifts from cold climate to warm and back again.

“We today confirm the recent announcement by NASA that there are historic and important changes taking place on the sun’s surface. This will have only one outcome - a new climate change is coming that will bring an extended period of deep cold to the planet.

So, how bout that trend we were discussing?

See it's all about balance Sargiepoo.

I think it's actually a good thing there's there two sides to the debate.
There should never be a stage where we treat anything as gospel. The trouble is that if you're going to give credance to a guy with a political agenda in a rented office in florida, you have to balance that against the vast vast pool of evidence and research saying that humans are influencing climate.

Most scientists are careful in what they predict, and use words like probability, and likelyhood - because they can't predict with 100% accuracy.
Those with your political agenda see this as some sort of weakness that pulls down the whole debate. It doesn't.

If the IPCC panel issues it's next report backing away from the level of certainty - or if more valid major research is produced countering the argument then it certainly needs listening to. In the meantime we shouldn't be overplaying reports like this.

basically I think the weight of evidence at the moment is so much in favor of a human role in increasing temperatures that we would be foolish to sit by and do nothing. If it's proved to be wrong, then so be it, but is the risk of doing nothing worth it?

So the storms, and increased temperatures, which they incorrectly predicted .... we shouldn't consider that as a problem to their global warming theory?

Maybe you can show me where it was said that temperatures will rise year-on-year?

Not sure if this is deliberate or you really don't understand or haven't bothered to learn the issues involved here? I mean you seem to like posting when it gets cold and stuff, but I assumed you were just doing that to provoke a reaction?

So global warming doesn't mean the global temperature doesn't get warmer?

It's okay if they get less and less?

The problem with that is that you guys are claiming it is warming at an increased rate due to the additional pollutants we put into the air.

But it's not.

Y2, the report was from NASA. There's strong evidence that there is a correlation between solar variation and climate change. You can engage in character assassination all you want, but as Sarge humorously pointed out, you're only making a fool of yourself.

Not really Muttley - he takes something and runs with it. It's all part of the process I've outlined numerous times.

Find something that could be conceived as a hole, however small, then pick pick pick. This is one of them.

Even if this is going on there's no logical step to concluding that humans aren't also influencing the temperature.

But NASA's official position seems to be:

Climatologists (scientists who study climate) have analyzed the global warming that has occurred since the late 1800's. A majority of climatologists have concluded that human activities are responsible for most of the warming. Human activities contribute to global warming by enhancing Earth's natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect warms Earth's surface through a complex process involving sunlight, gases, and particles in the atmosphere. Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are known as greenhouse gases.

For those of us who aren't enthralled with consensus-building, that's how real science works. Observations that don't fit the model must call into question the validity of the model. When you say "pick pick pick" you're really doing nothing more than you sticking your fingers in your ears yelling "can't hear you". Your emotional investment in global warming is causing you to turn your back on problematic evidence, and as a result, reason. (I only have to assume this is part of Western White Male Guilt self-hatred, but that's for another thread.)

Science is in a sad state of affairs in this country. First, the intelligent design claptrap, now the consensus politics.

Come on Muttley - if you can't see the weakness in the source of your link then you really shouldn't be taking an interest in this stuff at all.

Maybe political discussion isn't your thing and you should head back to your compound and put the foil hat on, or at least find a conspiracy therory website to post on - cos you're certainly not living in the real world.

When you're giving credence to a political hack trying to look impressive by renting a mailing address in a nice big building I'm afraid you're the one not listening.

There certainly needs to be more research on all aspects of climate, like solar activity, like volcanos, like pollution (global dimming), but you can only go on the weight of evidence at any one time.

And I'm sorry, but as the NASA guys point out - the majority of scientists think the climate is being influenced by humand activity.

I love it when the science of consensus is allowed. Hell I could be batting perfect on Arson Convictions if that was the law.

I can get enough Firefighters to agree with my determination. LOL Amazing isnt it. When they have no scientific backing the libbies demand we listen. When we are accurate they still say we don't HAVE enough evidence....

And THUS dear readers we see another in the Long Illustrius line of Socialist Situational Logic.

Mutt - I'm surprised you would offer such junk in this discussion. Just do a search on "Relational Cycle Theory" and you'll see how credible this bozo is. The slippery language of the first paragraph is also dead giveaway for pure baloney. He tries to gain credibility by linking himself to a NASA press release and "confirming it." The NASA press release, of course, says nothing about climate on earth.

I think in reality the views of the most of the deniers feature selfishness - they exhibit it here on a daily basis as they outline their views.
They resent the fact that anyone dare question them or ask them to make even the smallest adjustment to their lifestyles - so they just pretend nothing is happening. It's easier that having to look at themselves.

Guys Tilty lives in a community that is ruled by the apparition of FAILURE. Every cloud that appears is viewed not for the silver lining but rather searched closely for the lightning that SURELY must be there.

I note that not one member of the Church Of GlobalSocialisim will say what THEY will do IF they turn out wrong. I mean they hedge their bets with "It may be too bad to stop anyhow." but what if in 10 years we find we are actually going into a nother small ice age. And the Global warming stuff MIGHT have saved us?

If they are willing to agree to face the same punishment as other failed PROPHETS. I say we listen, but in EACH and every case when they are wrong they just do a Emily Litella and walk away.

Wowza. I've been trying hard to discuss facts ... figures ... data ... no response. Just some hypocritical statements to Mutt about character assassination, followed by some character assassination of his sources.

Hello!? Is this thing on?

Shouldn't a global warming trend, which is supposedly increasingly rising at an alarming rate, actually be a trend where the weather is getting warmer?

Watch - it's going to be a pattern. Every time the climate fails to follow their catastrophic model, there will be a scapegoat to blame. This year it was La Nina. But they'll never question their model (that is until the political consensus shifts to some other doom). The climate would have warmed according to plan had it not been for (insert scapegoat here).
