we've got the entire silverstien library...he likes them, but they're mostly short stories and poems

i've read him a few other longer books...he likes the idea of continuing a story over several days but most of the ones we have are geared for young readers...i'm looking for something to read to him

thanks for all the suggestions

I finished The Jungle Book with my 5-yr old a few weeks ago. I tried to start A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court with him, but that was not taking. He stuck with The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, but he was fading a little with Prince Caspian.

I finished Deep Survival a few weeks ago. The first half is heavy into physiological and mental aspects of survival. The second half gets more into summarizing actual cases where people either survived or did not. What is interesting is that most of the cases that are discussed in the book, especially those that are discussed at length, have other books written by the individuals involved with the survival situation.

Recently I read the girl with the Dragon tattoo trilogy. The final book, "The girl who Kicked the Hornets nest" was a page turner that I couldn't put down until it was done.

After that I read a book by Bernard Cornwell called "The Fort" about a little known battle of The (United states) Revolutionary War. "The Penobscot Expedition (in 1779) was an attempt by the militia and navy of Massachusetts to evict a small British garrison from Fort George in what is now Castine, in Maine. Massachusetts assembled the largest rebel fleet of the revolution . . . and lost it all. It's a story of incompetence and lost opportunities, which leads to the worst naval disaster in American history prior to Pearl Harbor."

I've just stsarted Dewey the Library CAt, story about the midwest and losing of famrlands in the 90s , got very famous in Italy and France ........ nachurly I'd never heard of it. But in a town in iowa the stupid little cat was slid into the book return and they kept it. But the real book comes in all those stories and likves that intertwined with Dewey the cat. Supposed to be great, but I've merely begun......

Yea...they are pretty emotional and sometimes dark. Weight of the Water..is that the one you balled over? That was heart wrenching. I haven't read her books in awhile an that was what was on the shelf. So far isn't toooo bad but I am afraid of what the ending will be.
