We built a new house last year and now everything is getting boogered up because of stair doodads and cabinet locks.” 3:10:44 PM 5/06/08 “I went to the library & all they had was the book on cds so I got them...wooo hooooo!!!!” 6:14:18 PM 5/06/08 “on my trip to N Alabama yesterday I listened to.. "The Education of Little Tree" it was AWESOME!!!!! I cried from Nasville to Decatur.... & I learned alot too!!! my step grandmother was 1/2 indian...she was wonderful...told me alot of stories... I am going to buy the book...the cds were great tho...narrated by Peter Coyote...HUBBA HUBBA!!! I finished "Angels & Demons" ( or vice versa) by Dan Brown....I found it entertaining...” 5:53:11 AM 5/23/08 “I'm about to start "People of the Masks"” 6:08:37 AM 5/23/08 “I am reading the book I won at trail days, "a walk for Sunshine". It's about Wrongway's walk on the AT. He did it for charity. He has a brother who lives is a group home called Sunshine. It's a very special home for those with mental and physical challenges.” 8:00:01 AM 5/23/08 “Singularity's ring by Paul Melko. A very interesting SF read about post singularity (mesh between, man, computer and machine) exodus where the remaining humanity on Earth is divided into "pods" (genetically enhanced groups of two to five individuals which act as one) and "singletons" (normal, but second class, humans). I enjoyed this read. Zero-G by Alton Gansky. This was a novel about the race to commercialize space, but it was so boring and two-dimensional that I quit it half way through (which was much further than I should have quit). I really liked the premise and somewhat follow whats going on in that field in real life so I tried to like it, but alas and alack, this book sucked. The Education of Little Tree by Forrest carter. Very good read, except that I was expecting a novel but this was really more of a collection of short stories put in chronological order. Still, the descriptions of the mountains were excellent and the story of the cherokee from their perspective should be read by everyone. Next up is Three cups of tea : one man's mission to fight terrorism and build nations-- one school at a time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.” 4:50:22 AM 6/02/08 “The Education of Little Tree by Forrest carter. Evidently, the book became common in public schools until his racist background became known. The other issue was when it was outed that it wasn't an autobiography. It was originally marketed as one. Folks keep talking about Three Cups. I need to check that one out. Next up for me is the Randy Pausch book, "The Last Lecture." I still haven't watched the whole thing (70 min) on youtube.” 5:55:19 AM 6/02/08 “My daughter needed an memoir for a school project. I gave her Little Tree since our public library still has it in the Biography section and that she act like she never heard that it wasn't.” 5:59:46 AM 6/02/08 “I bet the moonshin' part would be a hit at school. It cracked me up how the uppity folks that aged their shine were called the barrel sniffers.” 7:17:28 AM 6/02/08 “Oh, the places you'll Go! By Dr. Seuss” 5:03:04 AM 6/04/08 ““Oh, the places you'll Go! By Dr. Seuss” minish223 6:03:04 AM 6/04/08 My son just had his Band Banquet last night... The director gathered all of the seniors around him (kind of like a elementary school classroom) and read that to them... All of the parents were in tears (either that or at the food tables stuffing their faces.) 'fool” 5:06:19 AM 6/04/08 “It's hard to get through the book without tearing up. It's great to read to all kids starting out.” 5:51:36 AM 6/04/08 “Strange how "sweetheart" is a term of endearment while "candy-ass" is an insult. Maybe they mean like John Candy.” 7:26:55 AM 6/04/08 “I just finished "Creepers" by David Morrell I loved it..... so now I am reading "Scavenger" by David Morrell!!! and I am loving it too... David Morrell wrote "First Blood" & "Brotherhood of the Rose" VERY entertaining!!!!!!” 6:42:58 PM 7/16/08 “I'm thinking 'shrooms and ham.” 7:16:03 PM 7/16/08 “I just finished the RUINS wish I had my money and time back :( on to: Double Take by Catherine Coulter. never read of her so we shall see.” 6:11:25 AM 7/17/08 “Sorry Mapes, I look at the author's name and keep seeing Ann Coulter. :P” 6:13:56 AM 7/17/08 “No Shortcuts to the Top by Ed Viesturs” 6:44:42 AM 7/17/08 “LOL at treebait” 7:33:05 AM 7/17/08 “The Dark Side by Jane Mayer” 12:12:08 PM 7/17/08 “"The Codex" by Douglas Preston http://www.prestonchild.com/solonovels/preston/codex/index.html loved it!!!! I am now reading..."Still Life With Crows" by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child http://www.prestonchild.com/books/stilllife/ oh...by the way..I was listening to the tape & decided to read at home, since I do have the book "The Codex" & found that the tapes did not have the the whole book!!!....the book was better..... last edited: 7/24/08 8:32:46 AM” 8:26:46 AM 7/24/08 ““I just finished "Creepers" by David Morrell I loved it..... so now I am reading "Scavenger" by David Morrell!!! and I am loving it too... I read Tyrannosaur Canyon in a day...it was so exciting!!!! Twilight by Stephanie Meyer...ok....long.... not quite as good as Interview With a Vampire!!!!” 2:29:43 PM 9/03/08 “My neighbor does work for DC comics and every month he gets a big box of most of their publications. He usually just throws everything out, but now we get them. They're a fun read, and then I pass them on to other people, or to goodwill.” 5:46:55 PM 9/03/08 “Woodswoman III. Good stuff. :)” 9:44:48 AM 9/04/08 “I finally finished "Losing the Garden" by Laura Waterman. She and her husband were backpackers, hikers, mountain climbers, and writers. They lived "off the grid" for 27 years. He committed suicide at 67 - by hiking to the top of Lafayette in winter and staying near the peak until he died of exposure. The book is her memoir. The latter portions are quite moving and compelling - its an amazing portrait of two lives and a marriage.” 7:22:44 PM 10/31/08 “Recently I read "Mispent Youth" by Peter Hamilton. Its a SF novel based 40 or so years in the future about humanities 1st rejuvenation project. I followed that up with "Pandora's Star" by the same author. Its the same universe set 250 years later. Using wormhole technology and rejuvenation for nearly everyone we have created a star-spanning civilization that is robust, peaceful and confident. Its a pretty epic adventure with so many main characters that it sometimes felt overwhelming. Turns out this 900 plus page book is just the set-up for the 2nd half of the story about interstellar war with an alien species contained in the follow up novel "Judas Unchained". I have started Judas Unchained, but mostly right now I am reading "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War" by Max Brooks.” 8:29:55 PM 10/31/08 Mostly Same Authors “Still reading same authors for the most part, Nelson de Mille (The Gate House), Evanovich (Stephanie Plum series #14), both yet to be read, currently reading "Murder on a Girl's Night Out" by Anne George (southern sisters series). Recently read Dean Koontz's "Odd Hours".” 7:44:44 PM 11/02/08 “Jean Paul Sartre- Naseau Fyodor Dostoyevsky- notes from underground” 6:33:15 AM 11/03/08 “Unshackeld Leadership by Scott Hunter. So far, it's talking about your internal conversation with yourself and how it effects how you listen to others. Pretty good so far. I heard the guy speak at a conf this summer and am just now getting around to reading the book.” 7:07:12 AM 11/03/08 “Interesting book choices Travis. They point to a backpacker with a really active mental life. I remember when Notes and Nausea were in my book pack. Probably before you were born (horrible cliche, but probably true given the stage of life at which those books are most appealing). I think I finished Nausea, then read "No Exit" a few other things by Sarte (never got through Being and Nothingness) and I'm glad for what I read of him. I don't think I ever finished "Notes from the Underground" The Grand Inquisitor's tale in Brother's K still cracks me up. I fantasize about writing an updated version. I kind of fell in love with Herman Hesse's books even though he didn't have the cred that Dostoevsky and Sartre had. Hesse led me to Nietzsche, who turned my head around about 540 degrees (yep, almost exorcist style) and that appalled a lot of people at the time.” 7:14:36 AM 11/03/08 “there is a good chance that it was before you were born, im only 22. im really diggin the sartre and plan on reading alot more of both. i find it really suiting that Sartre was only one of 2 authors that have turned down the noble prize for literature, i find it very fitting to naseau. i just got done with a big camus kick with the stranger, the plague and the fall. hesse is on my list to read so i will get to it in due time. i've read a little nietzsche and i love his stuff. i try to keep my reading list something that will constantly keep me thinking, i usually round it out with some kerouac, huxley and wolfe as well.” 9:03:10 AM 11/03/08 “Sounds like a great reading list! Steppenwolf was my door into Hesse. I tried to emulate it off and on for a couple years after I read it. From context I am guessing Wolfe = Tom, not Virginia (or Gene)” 12:37:11 PM 11/03/08 “correct, i just got done reading electric cool aid acid test, an extremely entertaining book. i plan on putting steppenwolf and Siddhartha on my christmas list. i always try to emulate/ live like kerouac's dharmma bums. that book is perfect for a hiker.” 12:53:25 PM 11/03/08 “Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.” 6:44:42 AM 12/23/08 “Just read Woodswoman II Beyond Black Bear Lake. It was ok. I prefer the first one -- Woodswoman. THat was a VERY good book. Go read it :)” 6:27:28 AM 12/24/08 “He changed your name from "sweet" to "bucky". Hmmmm.” 7:26:48 AM 12/24/08 “i'm in the middle of "3 cups of tea" right now.” 10:49:17 AM 12/25/08 “going to go pick up "american gods" by neil gaiman at the library” 11:13:03 AM 12/25/08 “Cool, OT. I thought 3 cups of tea was one of the best books I have read.” 11:54:50 AM 12/25/08 “chili36 so far it's been very good book. it's taking me a while as i haven't had that much time but it is a good and easy read. thumbs up for sure. :)” 8:14:44 PM 12/25/08 “My parents bought me a copy of The Encyclopedia of Country Living (10th Edit) by Carla Emery and it is the best gift I've gotten all year. Everything a person could need to know to survive and to live independently is in there from how to build a loafing shed for cattle to canning to giving birth if you're alone. ”4:52:59 AM 12/26/08 “Nigal that looks pretty neat, I'll check that out. Right now I'm about to finish "The Bookseller of Kabul" Amazing how the tribal areas of Afgan and Pakistan rural mtn regions live!!” 8:27:24 PM 12/27/08 “I just finished the Tipping Point. It was not an easy read, but a very interesting book.” 8:32:42 PM 12/27/08 “Twilight by Stephanie Meyer...ok....long.... not quite as good as Interview With a Vampire!!!!†divinity 2:29:43 PM 9/03/08 ignore this user report this message Hey Divinity, I'm reading this book right now. Did you read any of the books that come after Twilight?” 10:40:34 AM 1/05/09 Jump to Page << prev
