Dunadan-

As you support ND in football, I guess I need to return the favor in bball. Go Jayhawks! They looked impressive against a really good Oregon team. What was the rebounding difference--30 to 60 in favor of KU?

I am really liking Kansas. The Kansas/Maryland game should be very exciting. Looks like the Big Twelve was THE basketball conference this year. Very impressive play by those mid-westerners.

I am really enjoying rooting for Kansas. They have great chemistry, depth, and leadership.

SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect four-part harmony.

The Smell in the Air After the First Score:

Announcers:
NORTH: Neutral and paid.
SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.

After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
SOUTH: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker. While somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon, planning begins for next week's game.

Nothing else in the universe comes even halfway close to the glories of Southern football...

Dayhiker, that was a nice story about Mike Davis. Leave it to you to get some connection from the Final Four to Bammy. LOL
Congratulations, Chili! Win it all this year and then get to the big dance next year. If Huggins leaves Cincinatti, you will have a better shot.
Bongofreek, the Jayhawks appreciate your support. They are gonna need it against Maryland. That team has some beefy boys and a great guard. I wish Oklahoma could rough them up before we had to play them.
Yeah, Arcmeister, points leader, the Big 12 does look good this year. I thought they would look this good sooner, but I'm glad to see it. It won't be fair if you acheive godly status in roundball, too, but I'm willing to bow before you if only my team can go all the way.

AND THEN...."someone" had to infect this thread with something about "Southern football". Well, from the home of Gayle Sayers, Bobby Douglas, John Riggins, John Hadl, etc......I would like to invite you to come to a game sometime. In fact, I would guess you have never been to a game in Nebraska or Michigan or Notre Dame or...........ease off the bourbon.

Sunday's story:

Missouri lost 81-75 to Oklahoma in the regional finals Saturday.

After the game, Quin Snyder left little doubt about his future.

"I'm not leaving," Snyder told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Asked if that was a promise, Snyder told the paper: "That's a promise."

Missouri athletic director Mike Alden said in an interview after the rally that Snyder has more than four years remaining on a renegotiated contract he signed last summer.

==========================

Monday's story:

Missouri gave Washington permission Monday to talk with Quin Snyder about the Huskies' vacant head coaching job.

Snyder is a native of Mercer Island, Wash., and has family and friends in the area.

Snyder told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Sunday that he had no plans to leave Missouri but was not promising he would stay in Columbia.

"It's always been my policy," Snyder said. "No promises."

==========================

All right! The guy sounds like he'd fit right in with Ricky Nuweasel!

3/26/02

No disrespect to you, Kleetn, but I don't know why Snyder would want to make a career move like that. He gets paid a bundle at Missou, and they are already way ahead of Washington. Missouri is a much better spring board to Duke, his eventual goal. I don't think he will go.
Hire the Gonzaga coach. He will take you places you want to go.
Dunadan
9:21:17 AM
3/26/02

Bob Bender was a Duke guy, just like Snyder. Bender's problem was trying to run Duke's offense without Duke's personnel. He did a better job of recruiting lately but the AD couldn't handle 3 seasons in a row with double digit losses. I agree, Snyder's got a better gig going at Mizzou, but the word is there's a lot of people there that don't like him.

Mark Few might be a good coach at Gonzaga, but can he pull off the same magic in the Pac-10? Hey, I hear there's a former National Championship coach who is unemployed and is a minority available...do ya 'spose he comes with a muzzle?
kleetn
9:31:26 AM
3/26/02

Yeah, Kleet, there are some grumblings in Columbia, MO. I think most Tiger fans realize that they have a great coach.
I really think Mark Few could work the magic at Washington. You don't do what he has done without some incredible coaching skills. Seems like the natural move for him and your school.
If Nolan Richardson were at Washington, I think he would show a much different public face, especially after what has transpired at Arkansas. They aren't making him offers, are they? He is another talented coach.

There was one inaccuracy that I spotted in your Southern Style Football post, Dayhiker. You have to get on the waiting list for tickets 5 YEARS before you can get in. Unless you have $50,000. Then they can get you a seat in a year or two. I have been to little tiny towns in the sticks down here, where they have concrete stadiums that hold 20,000 fans for Friday night High School games. Ain't nothin' like Football Southern Style. Ya gotta experience it to beleive it. I LOVE IT!

Kleetn, there was a girl, I knew, who moved from my hometown in NJ to Mercer Island, Wash. Her name was Louise Sabella. Don't know her, do you? She has to be married by now unless she changed her name and went to Hollywood. Believe me, you could not miss this girl. I took her to a pool party in 9th grade and had to fight off almost every guy in the place who was trying to get near her. She was probably the most beautiful (physically) girl I've ever seen in my life.

Dunadan, my friend, unless Indiana wins it all, you better put on your knee pads.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've heard that one before Tom. Ain't no gol darn truth to that belief. I'd root for Maryland with ya, but I gotta go with Mr. Dunadan's Jayhawks. That should be one great game!

I was a little apprehensive to post that Dunadan. As they say around here "Them's fightin' wahhds!"

I agree arc. Every year or so one of us has to go look at a stadium to make sure it's structurally sound. You'll go out to a school with an enrollment under 1000 and they'll have a huge stadium. I just finished a project on one of the larger schools in the area where their stadium is as big or bigger than most of the Div-II stadiums I've seen. Most elevated stadiums are open on the backside. They're actually putting band classrooms under the stadium seating, with a very large band auditorium jutting out of the back of the stadium. They are bricking in the whole back side of the stadium so that it is totally enclosed.

Just a chance, kleetn. It really is a small world. I ran into a couple of guys from my hometown, who were living down here, a few years back. They weren't even going to UF.

Too bad you didn't know Louise. I prefer dark haired girls myself, but she was a blond haired, blue eyed beauty. She's our age so there was a chance you may have known her. I wish I had KNOWN her.

I ran into a guy from work 10 miles up a mountain trail. He was coming down as I was going up. He was our System Administrator and had been out backpacking for a week. Anyway...sounds like it was my loss not meeting Louise!

Should be a barn burner tonight. What little I have seen of South Carolina has been impressive. If Wise can hold out and Massey will dominate the lane again, we should have a good shot. I'll be torn f it winds up being IU and KU in the finals. Hard not to pull for the Bama connection. I met Mike Davis a few times when I was in high school. Very nice man. I guarantee that if you win, you will hang that banner in your gymnasium with pride. It isn't easy to go all the way in the NIT.

I don't think many people know Heath outside of what we've seen of him in the tourney. He obviously has talent as was evident from watching Kent State. Congratulations, Arky.

I wouldn't mind if KU meets up with IU. However, KU vs OK would be a repeat of '88, which is the last time we went all the way. I think that would be intriguing. But first, Maryland!

Congrats chili. Last year we made it to the finals before getting blown out by Toledo. Look at us this year. Maybe next year, you too, can be knocked out of the NCAA in the 2nd round. Just kidding. I think going that far and winning games on the road is a big confidence builder going into the following year.

They were impressive. I could see an intensity in Wagner and Massie that was missing during the season. Those two guys were on an absolute mission. Massie just gets better with each game. He did not play in high school and earned a Juco scholorship through his play while in the Army. I just hope Wagner will stay another year, but really feel that he will.

Yep, the banner will look good in the Pyramid. Albeit, it's not the NCAA banner we have been looking for (although we have 2 Final Four banners), it did give us exposure and momentum.

Ok, now that that's over, I can pack away the blue and grey and get out the orange and white. Another couple of months and it will be.................

I regret to say that the Maryland sub-cretins have gone WAY over the line. Some radio station in Baltimore filmed a dude dressed up like a turtle putting a Maryland t-shirt on our statue of Phog Allen and then taking a piss on the side of Allen Fieldhouse.

Well, the ball didn't bounce our way, but we had a great season. Good old Coach Williams was all choked up. You gotta love a guy who is so wrapped up in his players like that. When they land back in Lawrence, there will be many thousands to greet the team and thank them for another year of outstanding basketball.
Did you know that Indiana has never lost a final game in the NCAA tourney? If they are in it, then they win it. (rhyme) But we will see what happens.

No. It’s not the sound of a basketball on hardwood. It’s Dunadan’s head against the wall.

Although I was rooting for Kansas, I’d like to point out that in true sportsweasel fashion, I hinted at the trouble they would face against Maryland.

It really looked like the Terps were intent on giving it away in the last 4 minutes. It’s a testament to KU that they nearly overcame a 20-point deficit. I won’t even say anything about keeping track of remaining time outs.

I guess I’ll have to root for the underdog tonight.

Sorry about the game Dunadan. It seemed like when Blake for Maryland came in with about 10 min to go they kinds took off. I was very impressed with the rally. When Fouzee(sp?) got hot it kind of made you wonder what could have been if he'd made some of his earlier ones that were much better looks. 4 points and about 30 seconds was slim, but possible. The TO hurt. When Blake? kept missing free throws I was getting very hopeful.

I was in my hometown this weekend and it was all abuzz about IU. I grew up about 30 minutes from Fayette, AL which is the hometown of Mike Davis. This town is about 45 mintues from Tuscaloosa. The whole area is very excited.
