My beloved DAWGS almost pulled it out.
They have the house pulling for them toward the last, but the #1 Duke did them in after a fight.
The DAWGS did good.

Pat Summitt tied Dean Smith as the winningest coach in college basketball(879 wins). How many wins will she finally end up with.
They were talking last night that if she stayed coaching to the age of Smith she could wind up with over 1200 wins.

Pat Summit the head coach of UT womens basketball team is now the ALLTIME winningest coach in Division 1 basketball. She passed Dean Smith with this win tonight.

Yeah. They broke into my game to show the last minute of yours, Ewker. Y'all should be proud of Summit. She's a class act and a winner to boot.

I know I'm proud of our Lady Knights. Looks like there's a good chance we'll meet UT to decide who goes to the final four.

Sorry in advance for your humiliation.

NCAA Men's Tournament games start up again tonight. A couple of them should be pretty good.

I see Illinois, OK St., WV, and Louisville advancing.

WK, I believe that game is opposite of the UI/UWM game. If you are just watching regular CBS at home, you might not see much of Washington/Louisville game unless UI/UWM becomes a blowout. I'm very suprised they didn't schedule Washington/Louisville to be the late game in that region.

I think Illinois would have a better chance getting by Arizona, so I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing them win.

Besides, Illinois has some unfinished business with Arizona and Lute from a few years ago.

This could work out well. Put a beatdown on UWM and Satan (aka Bruce Pearl) then knock off Lute's boys.

I know Ewker, the Lady Vols only lost by 14 points last time they played Rutgers. And that was Cappie Pondexter's first game back after sitting out the fall semester. She was a little rusty. She scored a total of 47 points in the last two games and seems to be getting warmed up for your team.

Should be good!

Well, it's going to be Illinois v. Arizona and Louisville v. West Virginia on the left side of the bracket.

Who does everyone like tonight?

I see UNC advancing, but the others I am less sure about. I'll be pulling for the underdogs: Michigan St., Utah, and Wisconsin.

(wow, did I just say I'd root for Wisconsin?)

It was an entertaining game, but Villanova got a royal screwing on that traveling call.

Even if you dismiss the fact that Allen Ray in no way traveled, that's not a call that's made with 3 seconds left. The paper today said the spectators were throwing all kinds of crap onto the court after the game to announce their displeasure. lol, TV must have cut away before that ensued.

Actually, what I thought was most funny was Raferty trying to count the steps to show it was a correct call..."onetwothree...see, it's a travel". I like Raftery, so all I could do was chuckle at that.

ESPN slowed it down this morning on Sportscenter and technically, he did travel. Your right though. You don't call that with 3 ticks left.

OK Hub, give me your picks for the final four.

You have to think that NC will dismantle the Badgers. State will give KY a run, but come up a bit short as will West Virgina.

I am a bit scared for the Illini. I think they will win, but everyone has to show up and play.

I have...

Illinois North Carolina

Louisville Kentucky

I'm heading out of town in a couple of minutes, so no long responses.

From what I saw Ray shuffeled his pivot foot at the top of the key, but that was obviously not why the ref blew his whistle.

After last night's performance, I don't think Wisky will be afraid of UNC. So I don't automatically pencil UNC into the final four. It will be interesting to see how Carolina handles a slowed-down, half-court game. Still, my money would be on UNC.

MSU/KY is also tough to predict. During the regular season, I think MSU wins this one. But I think they shot the wad on the Duke game, so I would bet on Kentucky.

Louisville will roll on WV.

Illinois will get revenge on Lute's boys for 2001.

That game was Philly street ball. UNC absorbed it and played disciplined ball. Absent the travel call, and it was still up in the air. He had to score. You have to take the bad calls along with everything else. Five more points on the board and it wouldn't have been an issue. Nova did itself proud. UNC overcame it though.

Leave it to an engineer! They can't draw without grid paper, they can’t read plans unless north is up, and they can't make changes in the field without written permission from the architect.

Fix the scores will ya, Day. Sheesh, I keep the football scores every year and lord knows people post those things every which way.

If I don't finish last this year it's only because a blind pig deserves to root an acorn now and again.

Oh I'm not trying to minimize the talent on the Tennessee squad, Ewker. It's just that if we lose, I'd call it a choke - not a legitimate loss.
vioLIN

arclite - I have the scores both ways. As for keeping score, I had to correct your score each time you posted it. It's not my fault that an architect can't follow simple direction nor that they don't always know that 2+2 = 4.
dayhiker

3/28/05

Vio, why would you call it a choke? Yes Rutgers beat UT back in Dec by 15 points. UT at the time did not have their starting five in place. UT's starting 5 changed 10 times during the yr due to injuries. Now Rutgers changed it's starting 5 14 times but that wasn't due to injuries. They were trying to find the best 5 to put on the floor. Now I think since that game Rutgers got Pondexter (sp) back. UT has now got Ely back playing her normal 4 spot. Volman can now do her thing out front.

Rutgers won the game in Dec due to getting more points in the paint. There returning player doesn't help there while UT's player does.

Anyway it goes it will be a good one.
Ewker

Rutgers won the game by shutting down UT's scoring. They used one of the defenses that have stymied teams all year. It will be a good game but it will be the Vol's last 40 minutes this year.

Violin, yes they did shut UT down in the paint. If you look at the scoring that was the difference in the game. I also mentioned that UT was without Ely or playing out of her position. She will be back in the paint this time.

“Are we going to do the usual tourney competition?”
Dayhiker 3/13/05

“Same rules as last year for the TT contest?”
hubcap 3/15/05

“I'll keep up with the scoring if anyone wants to participate. Picks are due Thur by 11:00 EST. Same format as last year.”
Dayhiker 3/15/05

Are these the DIRECTIONS you refer to, Dayhiker? Well, considering I didn’t enter last year; considering that there are an awful lot of posts between then and now to sift through to find your RULES; and considering it would have been considerate to post rules for newbies, you ought to be ashamed.

Do you submit specifications with every set of plans, or do you write, “Refer to last project for specifications.” on every new project? Do you specify beam sizes for different spans, or do you just say, “look it up in the Steel Manual”?

I find that clarifying the RULES, before the contest starts, helps. I find that it helps to do this EVERY year because there may be new people who want to join the fun.

Don’t worry about the time I’ve wasted explaining these obvious errors in your judgement. I’m used to it. I have found, over the years, that engineers need lots of handholding.

There is wisdom in the old Japanese saying, “Fix the problem, not the blame.”

I promise not to blame you, Day, for your obvious omission of not being clear in your directions (especially if it was going to cause mathematical meltdown), if you fix the problem.

arclite - every basketball and football contest we've had on this board has listed the schools from most likely to win to least likely to win. You've competed and won several of those contest. This contest was written for previous contestants, not a random contractor. If a newbie had a question, they could've asked. Hubcap managed to get it correct without asking. Why didn't you?

Obviously super geniuses need clear instructions for every task, no matter how routine.

Ewker - My newspaper ran a nice, flattering profile of Pat Summitt ( http://www.nj.com/rutgerswomen/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/111207546997860.xml ). They also had some good things to say about a few of the key players.

It really will be a shame to see them cry on national tv tonight.
