Music......I Like It All......Well, Most Of It
Mazy Star is awesome. I dug that sound since the first note I heard (of course, I was pretty buzzed at the time and the tonejust struck a chord). As laid back as it is, it's almost at the opposite end of the spectrum as S.O.D. Glad you like the disk, Mr.dude.

How was the Days Of The New show, Mr.Nigal?

Bela Fleck is the next show, Jan 14th, on my "To Do" list.

"How was the Days Of The New show, Mr.Nigal?"

The show was great! Travis did a lot of stuff he never plays live and the show lasted about 2.5 hours. Bummer isthat after the tour's over he is killing Days of the New. In his words, "I hate the record companies, the media hates me, I can't get played on the f!@kin' radio, so WTF? I refuse to have anything to do with an industry where you get ahead and find success by sucking various sized d@cks." I think he may be bitter?

Word on the net is that their last CD (best yet) only sold about 100,000 and the d!cks at Interscope wanted him to cut his hair, shave and start tanning. They supossedly have one last CD in the can called, "The Purple Project". How and when it gets out is anyone's guess.

Arrogantly twisting the sterile canvas snoot of a fully charged icing and ointment utensil he poots forths a quarter ounce green rosette (oh ah yuk yuk... let's try that again...!) He poots forth a quarter ounce green rosette near the summit of a dense but radiant muffin of his own design.... Later he says:

"SOME PEOPLE... SOME PEOPLE LIKE CUPCAKES EXCLUSIVELY, WHILE MYSELF, I SAY THERE IS NAUGHT NOR OUGHT THERE BE NOTHING SO EXALTED ON THE FACE OF GOD'S GREAT EARTH AS THAT PRINCE OF FOODS, THE MUFFIN!"

How many times can they fill me with lies and
I listen again
Twisting the truth and they're playin' around with my
head O.K.
The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand
Tears fill my eyes when I hear all the cries
For the reason today.

And they don't really know even what they're talkin' about
And I can't image what empty heads can achieve.

Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock 'n' roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, may think it's strange
You can't kill rock 'n' roll it's here to stay.

Lookin' through eyes of time mirrors reflecting their stories
Untrue
Promises, promises, telling me all of my glories overdue.
How many times have I heard it before
And I'll probably hear it again
King of a thousand knights, pawn in a table light
Losing to you.

Even the rhymes that they give me in times of confession
Ain't true
Outcome is obvious all for them none for us meaning
you too.
The things they will do and the things they will say
When they don't really understand.
Fear of rejection I need their protection
I'm making a stand.

Leave me alone don't want your promises no more
'Cause rock 'n' roll is my religion and my law
Won't ever change, may think it's strange
I'm born to rock 'n' roll I'm here to say.

Rio SP250 - perfect trail companion
I just bought a Rio SP250 for $130 (after $20 mail-in rebate). While I don't do any winter hiking here in Massachusetts, I have started walking a lot this winter.

The Rio SP250 is an MP3 CD player with a built-in FM tuner. The cost is high when compared to other MP3 CD players, but this player is leagues above the competition. I was surprised a few months ago after purchasing a cheap MP3 CD player, only to find out that it couldn't save the position you were at when turning it off, and it couldn't fast forward or rewind MP3 CDs. First generation to say the least. The Rio has all of those features and more. Skip protection is great and it reads CD-RW discs - a feature that may be standard on MP3 CD players, but the Rio reads DIRECTCD CD-RW discs, which most of the others do not. However, when I created a DIRECTCD CD-RW disc, containg both music and part of an audio book, the Rio would sometimes not recognize the CD when first powered on. Powering off and powering on usually rectified the problem, but as a result of not seeing the CD, it lost my saved spot. After reading Rio's web site and searching on Google, I discovered that it's best to avoid DIRECTCD cds. Another problem was that my DIRECTCD CD-RW disc has multiple files with varying bitrates (the Rio supports this, but that, combined with the DIRECTCD CD, obviously caused a problem).

The Rio comes with 2 rechargable AA batteries and an AC adapter. Plug the Rio in and it has the ability to recharge its own batteries. A very nice feature. Better yet, it has the option to 'Discharge and recharge' the batteries, allowing you a maximum life cycle. Battery life is listed as 15 hours. I'd say it's around 8-10 hours.

Audio books are my thing - I prefer them over music any day. I can fit a 23 hour book onto 2 cds. And it's easy to convert CD audio books into MP3. But just imagine how many songs you can fit onto a 700mb CD. Quite a few!

I swear I don't work for Rio. When I like a product this much, I tell people about it. Between my commute, walks, and occasional deliveries for my job, my Rio is getting a lot of use. Having to carry around only 1 cd is a big plus too.

My only complaint is the lack of an AM tuner. FM tuner is nice, but not being much of a music person, I would have preferred the option of AM to listen to news and talk shows.

I can't wait to use this on the trail. I'm planning on a lot of solo hikes with my dog this year, so it'll be nice to have the Rio with me.

READ THIS IF YOU LIKE STREAMING RADIO
oooooooo.....

I stumbled on something nice.

Anybody remember Broadcast.com? It was great while it lasted. Bought out, by yahoo.com, but it was never the same. Then some good stations were broadcasting on the internet, and then stopped due to a legal problem. It seems the university associated public stations never went down, like KUNM (Albuquerque) and KCRW (Santa Monica)

They are starting to come back. KPFT (Houston), KTAO (Taos). Couple seem close to going back up. KBAC (Santa Fe/Albququerque) and KBCO (Boulder) are close.

But on KCRW I discovered 128 bitrate, mp3 streaming radio. From that I found what may be a pot at the end of the rainbow.

How long with this last and how far will it go? The sound is great, probably want DSL/Cable or better.

Check out: Shoutcast
