The New Newspeak
The following is the language of the New World Order. Get used to hearing it. Most of the ignorati in this country are well versed in it.

RE: The New Newspeak
It is getting a little ugly out there. I read today in a London paper that some FBI people were looking into ways that physical pressure (read: torture) could be exerted on suspects in the bombings because no one is talking.

One way would be to extradite some people to France or a Middle Eastern country to be interrogated in places that don't outlaw torture.

Then, I see people booed off stages.

We have how many hundreds of people in jails without charges brought. How are the authorities able to keep them in?

I'm in support of the bombing, but I don't like the chilling effect of this whole thing. We should be able to question, question, question. These things *might* deter terrorism, but I don't want to wake up one day without the freedoms previous generations fought and died for.

BTW, your chances of dying at the hands of terrorists are less than getting killed in a car wreck, dying of cancer... Come on people, get a stiff upper lip and keep some perspective.

BTW, my dad lived through American bombings in Belgium during WWII. Two of my uncles were killed. If my family could survive that, then I sure as hell can keep living my life.

Ambrose! COOL!

Haven't heard from old Ambrose in a while. He's been keeping a low profile.

Who said, "The first casualty of war is the truth." ??

Most all gov'ts can hold people forever and a day without having to file charges because the people do not have the right to file a writ of habeas corpus. Come on you JD-hikers. Give me a hand here.

Reformed, would you agree to such non violent methods as sodium pentathal in extracting information? I do agree there are a lot of grey areas that will need to be addressed as this whole thing moves along.

RE: The New Newspeak
Bacpac thanks for the compliment. I intend to "whine" from now till doomsday when it comes to speaking out against the idiotic Middle Eastern policies of the United States. We are now beginning to reap the whirlwind for our slavish devotion to Israel and our love of big gas guzzling automobiles. It's time the America people tuned out the swill being pumped out by the American press and television and started thinking for themselves.

The bombing of Afghanistan has nothing do do with getting Bin Laden and everything to do with building a gas/oil pipeline across that country. A pipeline that will earn billions for Amirican and British multi-national corporations that at this moment are developing the oil fields of Central Asia republics of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

Every American soldier that loses his life, every Afghani that loses his life will lose it for "our American way of life".
In my mind that means 10 or 15 percent of the world's population using using 80 percent of the world's resources.

If that makes me a whiner then so be it.

RE: The New Newspeak
Gordon I can't believe you could be so stupid as to think that what we are doing over there will stop the terrorism. Our actions in the Middle East and particularly Afghanistan are "breeding" thousands of Osama bin Ladens. We haven't even begun to see the terrorism we ourselves are conjuring up.

Let me get this clear.

Just because Big Oil wanted to build a pipeline across Afghanistan, you think that is the only reason we are over there?

That big crater in lower Manhattan has nothing to do with it?

Thanks for reducing a complex world to one simple guiding force. It makes it a lot easier for me to think now. Phew!

Solitary hiker, good for you. It's refreshing to see some intelligence on this site instead of the usual pathetic bacpac BS and drivel. The US has been targeting and bombing civilians, a Red Cross food storage warehouse, and now a hospital...and denying it. After the UN confirms it, only then does the USA admit its guilt. The US is the biggest terrorist bully in the world, and who can blame Arabs if they want to kill lying pigs such as Americans. Too bad bacpac wasn't in the WTC, for if anyone *deserves* to die, surely scum such as he does.

He could be the only person on the earth actually stupid enough to believe Taliban news releases!

Your spin on sanctions against Iraq is almost laughable. U.N. sanctions are actually the U.S. specifically targetting arab children? Yeah, right! But I do agree, we need a better response to Saddam, since he doesn't care how many of his own citizens he kills in his quest for weapons of mass destruction. I'm sure the U.S. will do the right thing when the time is right.

Ya Bob, like maybe leaving Saddam in power instead of taking him out the first time. Maybe the US can say the Taliban must be eliminated, then turn around and say that some "moderate" elements of the Taliban are needed in a post-war Afghan government...just so we can keep a military presence in Pakistan. Bush left Saddam in power for the purpose of keeping a US foot in the middle east.

Spock, I didn't say the U.S. did the right thing back in '91. Although they were trying to do the right thing in a way, by not going beyond freeing kuwait from an invading nation. Hmmm... So do we actually agree that the U.S. should have removed Saddam from power during the Gulf War? If so, would you agree we should remove him now?

Quit your fuc*ing whining - you spineless b!tch.

How dare you sympathize with the enemy. Listen, dumbass - we are at war - get a stomach for crying out loud. The Taliban was given ample opportunity to "cough-up" bin Laden, but refused to do so. They are getting what was promised in return. We're going to get bin Laden by whatever means are neccessary. He is the enemy. He will die.

Casualties of war? Imagine that!
WAR, dumba$$... we're at war.

Stop at bin Laden? Not on your life. This is gonna get MUCH bigger and MUCH uglier loooooooong before it is resolved - pull up a chair.

With all due respect SH, what I find rich is that the people who cry foul the most offer the least amount of input to a solution. What have you PERSONALLY done during this time to offer help to the situation (hint: cutting and pasting articles doesn?t count)? Have you offered ANY solutions while so eagerly pointing out the problems? How many letters have you written to your congressman? Your senator? Bin Laudin has called for the destruction of the Jews and America. That my friend is called genocide. Pray tell sir, how should we react to this as well as to the country that supports him? And no I have never served in the military (BTW, have YOU?) but this doesn?t void a person?s input as to the policies of our country.
