It was a great race this year! Last year the course was very linear which required the disciplines to not be staggered...last year we did 38 miles of mountain biking in one discipline...that was tough! This year, although it covered the same mileage (60 miles), the longest discipline at one time was 17 miles of mountain biking. We cleaned the course until the end, and because of time, ended up skipping some checkpoints. We placed second in our division, finished up strong! We had a few bumps early on, but recovered and made up some good time. Alot of racers...over 100. Great mountain biking...great rapel. I'm ready to go again!

Headed North for a week of hunting, (or in my case this year, sitting inside w/ the baby and hoping Birch gets a few and possibly helping to process em if it doesn't stop being freakishly warm for Michigan in November).

Just completed Eagle Rock Loop again with some buds. 3 days 2 nights and 27 miles. Felt great I slept in my Henessey Hammock down to 30 F and was very warm, don't know if I'll ever sleep on the grind again.

We went to Daniel Stowe botanical gardens yesterday. It was very nice. The orchid greenhouse was neat, with lots of different tropical plants, but it was like revisiting my yard in Florida. Funny. The cacao and coffee plants were nice. I might swing back by in a month or so to see if the coffee berries are ripening then. :)

Where I was camped the clouds were non-existent, the light pollution was next to nothing. The moon had set. The naked-eye visible stars were maybe 100 times what one can see here near the city. With astronomical binoculars, maybe 1,000. It was awe-inspiring. Constellations became lost among the brilliance of the additional stars, so much it took minutes to understand the constellation map, when it normally takes just a second. It was wonderful to see the Milky Way so clearly. The stars were strewn about like spilt diamonds with the density of sand. Galaxies, star clusters, nebulae, all easily findable with binocs. Even the Pleiades lost their typical uniqueness among the other stars. Days later, I still can't believe how many stars were visible. My viewing area was an open field. Walking into it was like walking into another world. The beauty kept my body warm, despite the freezing temperatures. I envy the stargazers who lived before Edison. To top if off, Leo showered the sky with meteors from the top of the treeline just left of the Milky Way.

For me - great hike last weekend. Got to visit winter, walking in the snow in the Carters in the White Mountains. Nice views of a snow capped Mount Washington.

Next weekend in New Jersey and in laws. I hope to stop at Campmor in Paramus. Might not though because #1 priority was hitting a barbecue place I've been hearing great things about.

I had a girl friend who had worked at Cafe du Monde for a few years. When I visited New Orleans with her, she felt the need to visit, just as she felt the need to visit other family in the area. It really was like a family there with some of the staff. I hope its doing well. Have fun Chili.

We spent the better part of today at Suzie's Pride, a (relatively) local big cat rescue. I fell in love with Hobbes, a rather petite mostly Bengal tiger. She's so very much like some of my cats, it's scary. Just a few hundred pounds bigger. There were 5 other lions there, including a cub (Ellie) who just spent her first night outdoors and not sleeping in the house with her humans and the dachshund posse. Yeah, a lion whose modeled her behaviors after dachshunds. She also was born with a bobtail. Cutest thing in the world! The people who run this rescue facility also brought in a few ponies, for pony rides. It was the funniest damn thing to watch the lions and tiger scent the ponies, who were 200 feet away and behind several layers of fences. Hobbes was chittering like my cats do over a squirrel. Boy, they were focused like lasers. After the wind shifted, and the ponies caught scent of teh kittehs, they started jumping around and trying to get away from their handlers and back into their carrier behind the van. I don't really blame them. They're snack size.

What was the best part of today? Big, fat, flakes of snow, falling thick and heavy and quickly covering the ground! I was very glad for long johns., the wind was some kind of cold.
