Mini-touron stops along the way. Sunday probably a dayhike at Lone Pine in the AM and then mother-in-law will be here early afternoon. That's when I plan on drinking. :D” 9:14:53 AM 6/25/10 “LOL @ lmg isn't it time to leave the office yet????? for cryin out loud!” 2:56:22 PM 6/25/10 My weekend “ ![]() Hiking up on Gantrisch (to the right). Following a rather spontanous (or foolish and maybe beer inspired) decision to hike up on Gantrisch - after we had spent the afternoon with BBQ at a totally different location. We arrived at the trail head with nothing but sandals, t-shirt, shorts and no food or water, with only two hours left before the sunset. I had understood we would do a short hike to the pass between the two peaks, but instead from there we turned right, along the ridge and then up on the back side of Gantrisch, involving climbing some steep, rocky sections. We stood on that little pointy peak on the very right of Gantrisch. Then, as the sun began to disappear behind the horizont, we flip-floped down in a hurry on the other side.” 2:12:30 AM 6/28/10 “what kind of critters do you have to keep an eye out for?” 2:55:17 AM 6/28/10 “HPD not sure whether your question was directed at me, but the only critters you may have to look out for are moskitos, horse flies, wasps and tics, but at those altidude they are not really a big deal to worry about. When we go hiking we have plenty of sunscreen with us, but no insect repellent. I guess that gives you an idea of the nuisance. The only large critters to look out for are cows. Sometimes trails go through meadows and alps where cows graze freely. There are few cases, a handfull of people, who get injured or, very rarely though, killed by a cow. Usually these are tourist who want to 'cuddle a cow' for a souvenir photo. Cows are docile animals, but I do not recommend to hug and kiss them :-) The meadow in the foreground of the photo belongs to an alp, or mountain pasture, and we encountered some cows who just stood there, munching and watching us walking by. Regulare wildlife sightings may include various birds of prey, ibex, chamois, marmot, maybe a fox or badger and finaly reptiles and amphibians.” 3:46:54 AM 6/28/10 “The lack of threats must add to the serenity, as if that view needed any help.” 4:32:01 AM 6/28/10 “We added a bit of threat and zest to the serenity by hiking through it with sandals. At the top some hikers, wearing ropes and helmet (there is also a via ferrata) gave us odd looks. (addendum: I never thought I would be so silly to attempt this with sandals, but we had been out for a leisurly picknick, when we were struck by the idea to hike up on Gantrisch) last edited: 6/28/10 5:22:43 AM” 5:19:17 AM 6/28/10 “Drove 13 hours to Gainsville GA and Back...picked up a Fenn Mako XT, a Fenn Mako 6, and a 16 1/2 Foot Necky Elaho and brought them home. For the first time in my life I consider to upgrade from 'renting' to 'buying' a home. Kind of scary. Around noon I will leave to visit my family over the weekend. My brother and his family are staying for a week at my parents place, so I go to see them all. Kind of scary too. Particulare if you would know my sister-in-law.” 10:10:44 AM 7/22/10 “Headed to Rodanthe with two other TT'ers.” 10:15:11 AM 7/22/10 “just sitt'n around 'n stuff” 10:18:22 AM 7/22/10 “going kayaking (if it doesn't storm) and cycling on the greenway. The whole idea of buying a home is a brand new development. Out of curiousity I researched the housing market this week and to my great surprise found that years of saving money finally got me to the point where I could afford to buy my own place. At least buying a small flat wouldn't be out of reach anymore.” 11:14:35 AM 7/22/10 “Celebrating my girl's second b-day! She's been singing happy b day for months!” 11:15:29 AM 7/22/10 “If its anything like the US, typically its cheaper to buy then rent...” 11:22:38 AM 7/22/10 “Gem? The greens? What's that.better get on the interstate..that's whatll get you to my house!” 11:38:07 AM 7/22/10 “wow - a blast from the past, Gem, Scorchy and GNM on the same page! Even scarier: in the same place at the same time on the same weekend! I'm going blueberry picking and helping a friend work on his house even though I have a million projects at my own house. If the gods smile on me I might get the kayak out on Lake Superior.” 11:46:20 AM 7/22/10 badass is right!! AND.... “very scary...because tequila will be involved!
