Journal Help Needed

“I'm planning a cross country bike ride this winter and wondered what method to use to update an online website.

1. Hand write the journal entries, and have a friend type and submit them
2. or send electronically via a PalmPilot with a modem,
3. or use some type of wireless device ?

I'd like to keep some friends and family up-to-date on our cross country journey and any ideas are welcome. Being a backpacker too, I know some of you have probably thru-hiked and I'm curious how you kept a journal.

“The problem I see with either the Wireless or the PalmPilot (I'm also assumeing wireless) is coverage. If you get outside a major metro area or away from interstates your coverage gets pretty spotty. Now if you have a wired Palm modem then I'd say the problem would be entry (I hate making large text entries into my Palm) you could take along the Palm folding keyboard which would make entry easier.

If money was no object (hard to imagin) than I think a Palm with an OmniSky Modem would give you good flexability but I would have a backup plan (either a wired modem or sending the report to your friend).”
