sleeping bag with built in pad “Are there any plans available for a down sleeping which uses the sleeping pad as its bottom surface? Maybe the pad would slip into a pocket, or strap onto the sleeping bag. Has anyone made one, or seen a kit?” 7:03:08 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Years ago somebody made a bag like that. Forget who it was, but it basically had no bottom insulation. A Therm-A-Rest slipped into a sleeve instead. Frankly, when we tested it, we found it to be awkward to use, and rather ineffective in cold weather.” 7:05:41 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Mountain hardwear has sleeping bags with pockets on the bottom which hold the mountain hardwear sleeping pads.” 7:17:56 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “The Golite Fur(?) is basically a quilt that attaches to a pad (made by Golite). The reviews were pretty bad and I saw them really cheap on some site recently.” 7:26:25 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad 7:33:28 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Do a search for Big Agnes sleeping bags. They have a system of two bags that can be used together and have a sleeve for the pad. I have looked these over in the store and was impressed. I think the Fur is on closeout on the REI site isn't it? Not impressed with it.” 8:05:52 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “I climbed in one years ago at the store that used the thermarest pad for the bottom insulation. The pad slipped into a pocket. I don't remember the brand or name. I didn't think it was comfortable because you couldn't "bundle up" or roll around with any ease. Other designs may be different.” 11:13:55 PM 9/19/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “The MacPac Neve is available from backcountry-equipment.com. It's made in New Zealand and the price is reasonable. Although I have not yet tried it; I've seen a few decent reviews.” 12:53:24 AM 10/21/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “The December issue of Backpacker mag has a review of Big Agnes. The review is mostly positive. www.bigagnes.com” 10:24:32 PM 10/21/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “I saw a review of it on The Outdoor Life Network lat night. It didn't get very good reviews. I think it was mostly because you couldn't turn on your side easily. The opening at the top seemed hard to adjust when on your side as it wanted to stay "face up." It would keep you from slipping off the pad, though.” 6:35:01 AM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “The Big Agnes featured in Backpacker seems like a neet idea - if you spend the entire night on your back. Me, I flop about like a fish on a river bank. I need insulation on all sides.” 11:28:02 AM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Another option is the Flex series of bags made by Sierra Designs. They come in various comfort ratings, and are available in both down and synthetic. These bags come with two cinch straps on the bottom connected to four sewn in loops. A thermarest slides through easily, and you just pull the straps tight. However, as mentioned before, this still seems to be a feature best suited to someone who sleeps on their back. While it is possible to rotate inside the bag to lay on your side, the width of your shoulders is at odds with the width of the pad, making the bag more tight and restrictive.” 12:45:52 PM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “No bag and pad combo for me. I change sleeping positions way too much during the night.” 2:53:21 PM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Is this a new feminine product?” 3:26:31 PM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “thread degeneration at its finest” 3:32:20 PM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Thank you. Ya knew I'd catch on, sooner or later...” 3:33:53 PM 10/22/01 RE: sleeping bag with built in pad “Had one years ago. From a company called CariKit. A make-your-own company.” 4:21:07 PM 10/22/01
