Cherry Creek - Tony Grove
Beautiful hike starting in lush maple forest gradually ascending into pine forests and finally rocky alpine peaks. The first couple miles is very flat and easy, but then becomes much steeper (though not scrambling unless you want to take Cherry Peak, the very prominant, rocky peak you can see on the way up that is to the north of where the trail comes over the ridge). Once up to the ridge and over to Tony Grove are some of the most spectacular views in Utah, especially in June or July when Mt. Elmer, Mt. Logan, etc. are still covered with snow. On the east side of the Mt. Naomi ridge the trail tends to lose you in the rocks and grass, but keep going where you think the trail should be and you'll eventually find it, just watch out for cliffs. Earlier in the summer there are countless little runoff streams that are essentially the same thing as the local tapwater (no nasties) but stick to the streams that are on rocks - waterfalls are good places to fill cantenes. Unless you have snowshoes, don't try this hike in May or earlier - last year was a terrible snow year but there was still a ten foot drift on the ridge the second week of June. In Cherry Creek Canyon the trail crosses the creek a number of times, so you should either have really good balance on logs or else some waterproof boots. I would say this is by far the best trail between Ogden and Pocatello.
