"The hike up to Silers Bald from the East side of the mountain is a long steep hike, but lots of great scenery. If you hike in stop and camp by the creek the night before and get an early start because it will take you 9 hours to hike up to Silers Bald shelter. As has been mentioned before the shelter is full of mice and there are a couple of black bears that love to come to the shelter and they make a lot of noise at night behind the shelter catching and eating mice and rats. Otherwise it is a great spot with wonderful views. I will go there again."

"Extremely nice shelter. Very easy places to hang food at night. The only thing that takes away a five is the fact that there were mice everywhere. Rather than that all is good. I also enjoyed the field.I visited in the summer."

"Great trail in. The view is great, but it's not quite the 360 you'd expect (low trees and shrubs block about 90 degrees worth). Tough, steep uphill stretch to the top (5,216 ft)."

"Good shelter, but far down if you're a purist. The hike up the north side of the loop trail is quite steep, but it takes you right to the bald, which is beautiful."
