Peekamoose Wilderness Area, New
Yorkby crisisbill 2nd winter camping trip @Peekamoose March 2005. When we arrived we knew we were about 8 hours ahead of a big snow storm that dropped 12"
It was great setting up camp before the storm and then just waiting and watching the storm roll in.
We shared the area with many local residents, one river otter who would swim past the site about 4 times a day on his way to fill his tummy.
3 Mink hunting and playing in the snow, a few deer refusing to stop using the trail near the tent. And most of all one coyote who would just stay within the glow of our fire and stare at us like we were nuts for being out at this time of the year.
We had a ranger stop by as we were setting up to check if we knew of the pending storm, once she saw how well prepared we were she joked "If I have any problems at my house with the storm I'll come and stay with you guys"
It was a great hike! and it was nice to re-charge the batteries then face the world again. Number Pictures:50 Date Created: 2/15/06
